Who will be Team Canada's Captain?

I know the popular choice will be Crosby. But with the Penguins massive collapse in the playoff's and his just ok performance at the 2010 Olympics. Should it be Toews?
While he may not put up the regular season point that Crosby does. He has Captained his team to 2 Stanley Cups and was arguably Canada's best player in 2010.
Or perhap's is there someone else?

It depends on who has the respect of his teammates and the coaching staff..something that most of us, as fans, aren't really privy to and only hear snipets about in the media. Crosby is undoubtedly our best player, but is he really more respected in the dressing room or a better leader than, say, Shea Weber? My personal preference is that we give Crosby an "A" and let him focus on his game, rather than deal with all the extra-curriculars surrounding the Olympics.

C - Weber
A - Crosby
A - Toews
A - St. Louis

...is probably what I'd like to see.

I really have no idea, I would not gamble on anyone yet. But it will be interesting to see who is selected. This will say a lot about the guy chosen. Back in 2010, it was Niedermeyer right? That makes sense but we have a growing young Canadian squad and anyone from Bergeron to Toews to Crosby can be selected.

In a quick assessment of things. Babcock has spoken a lot about Toews over his career. He has to play him a lot so it makes sense to have been able to know a lot about the young center. He has obv said nothing but good things. This involves the 2010 olympics.

I believe Babcock and yzerman learned a lot about the Toews in 2010 where he was the tournaments best forward and wasnt he MVP? His entire line was effective. Great line

Winning 2 cups since 2010 Olympics, Ive got to think the safe bet is Toews. But this will say a lot about who ever is chosen

Crosby has a couple of things talking in his favor: He is the best player in the world, he was captain in 2010 when he also got the Olympic winner, and he has had very much adversity by now so he knows how to balance his competitive sprit with remaining calm. There is many haters out there as far as fans are concerned, but players have great confindence in his ability.

Niedermeyer was captain.

Anyways, I hope they give it to Weber. But don't think Crosby/Toews are a bad choice.

Is this a real question? It's obviously Crosby.

C - Crosby
A - Toews
A - St. Louis
A - Weber / Keith

Crosby and Toews with the best chance, IMO.

I am looking at this from Babcock and Yzermans POV.

They know who Crosby is. They understand he is the MVP of their team prior to the Olympics.

Yet who is going to be the guy wearing the C?
I think Toews makes a great case

Yes, while I wont argue that Crosby is one of the best players in the world. He has won 1 cup in Which Malkin was the best player. His team absolutely fell apart in the playoff's under his leadership and he was next to invisible in the last Olympic's(either then the goal). What makes Crosby a lock?

First, Crosby's a better player. Crosby is older and thus has seniority. Crosby has the better résumé while playing under much higher expectations & scrutiny.

Crosby is "the guy." He is the face of Canadian hockey and I'm sure Hockey Canada has been waiting years to slap the "C" on his chest to make it official.

I think it should be Toews or Weber, but Crosby is the face of Canadian hockey so it's gonna be him.

I understand this view, but I'm not sure if it would matter. Whether he is the captain or not he is going to be the one under the most scrutiny and pressure and the media will always want a word with him anyways.

Crosby, Toews or even Weber would all be fine choices though. I would go with Crosby because he is use to this kind of pressure.

I believe it's much less pressure to lead Team Canada in the Olympics than it is to lead the Penguins, which always has massive pressure on them. Here he firstly can share the leadership with players like Toews and Weber, as well as having a great deal of talent on the team in the actual games.

My vote is for Weber, garners more respect from ALL players. Sid is a polarizing figure, great player, but polarizing, gets to wear a letter, but for my team it's A and not the C.

I somewhat agree. However the standard is set as gold or bust for Team Canada, so I say the pressure is about the same.

This. After the golden goal this is going to be Sidney Crosby's team. For better or worse.

Crosby has led his team to one cup but the past two years he has led his team to massive disappointment.

Toews has won two cups, a Conne smythe, was Canada's best forward in 2010 and is the epitome of leadership IMO.

I'm absolutely biased being a Hawks fan but Toews has proven to get more out of his team than Crosby has.

In Sweden that is usually the coaches job, mainly. Although yes, its probably important to have an on ice leader as well. Both Toews and Crosby and several others knows how to at this point.
