Meh, I could see Ryan being more assertive this time around in getting it done soon and accepting the idea of not making more than Duchene.

Ultimately something only the people at the table know the true answer to.

Cowen deal looks done now too. 4yr 3m AAV. I think that deal will look pretty darn good by the end of this year.

I'd like to see ROR locked up early, but if it comes down to him being an RFA, depending on the team, I'd probably let him walk. Having as many first round picks as possible for 2015 would be ideal.

Just Stepan and Franson left to be signed of the big name RFAs. I wouldn't be surprised if Stepan is the one not signed when the season starts. Sather has previously been pretty determined that all RFAs sign bridge deal (playing hardball with Dubinsky and del Zotto) but changed it for McDonagh and now claims: "I am not going to give a long-term contract at this stage and he is a good player, a smart player, a good team guy. There is certainly nothing wrong with him, but you need to wait a little while before you get the big bucks.”.

I can see how that would rub Stepan the wrong way when he was the teams leading scorer last year.

Rangers have pretty much the whole team to re-sign next year too.

Didnt know where to put this but, I wish we have given Lindstrom more time. He is a beast in the SHL and is bullying all the defenseman in the league. Scored some sick goals today again.

It was a semi-dirty hit by the accounts of people that saw it. Hopefully Klesla recovers quickly.

I'll be fairly annoyed if King gets suspended though, because Klesla had his head down and it sounds like a hit similar to the one Stuart laid on Landeskog. The only difference is a clearcut case of King jumping into the hit according to Tippet.

I'm still annoyed that Stuart didn't get suspended, therefore King should get suspended. Head down or not, hitting a guy in the melon is a no-no.

In his 30 thoughts column today, Elliotte Friedman said Liles vetoed a trade to Carolina before he was traded to Toronto. Was that ever reported before? I wonder what the trade was, Carolina was rumoured to be interested in him whenever his name came up near the deadline.

Let's say it was Skinner, just to further agitate everyone.

Anyone know what the story is on Louis Leblanc. I figure his days with the Habs are probably coming to an end. Is he worth trading for? The Avs probably could use more forward prospects.

They rushed him a bit and then our friend Lefebvre tried to turn him into a grinder and now he's among the first cuts in camp. He's going nowhere fast, I suspect.

Could wanting to play him for a couple games be the reason for this timing?

There isn't really any downside to signing players you know you want in your organization. You only use a year of the ELC when you decide to and it eliminates the small risk of him not signing a contract and going back in the draft.

Of course if you want to use him in the NHL he has to be signed, but it's not necessarily the reason for this contract. Siemens was signed to his ELC two years ago.

The word in the Québec media is that Leblanc is pretty much done with the Habs .
I still think that he could play in the NHL somewhere , but you're probably looking at a 3rd line forward at best with Leblanc. If you look at the Habs dep chart, a guy like Michael Bournival ( involve in the Ryan O'Byrne trade ) is lightyears ahead of Leblanc ... but it's not 100% his fault . Leblanc has been Drafted when Bob Gainey was their GM , not Marc Bergevin . Now Bergevin is in there but Leblanc is not " his guy ", ok Trevor Timmins is still in charge of the draft , but he's not the main guy , Bergevin is and he's gonna give chances to players that he brought with the Habs , not guys from the previous regime .

Since we gave them Bournival for O'Byrne, can we get Leblanc for Sarich or Hunwick please?
