HHOF Trade Game

Remove one enshrined player and replace him with a player who has not been inducted and has been passed over at least once.

For me:

Remove - Mike Gartner
Add - Steve Larmer

Steve Shutt is a good guy and a very good player one of the quickest shots but sorry he is not a hall of famer.Guy Charboneau is the player I would replace with.

Remove Edgar Laprade
Add J.C. Tremblay

So, if I understand this game, we continue from what the people before have posted? If so, this is what it looks like so far.

Added
Steve Larmer
Guy Carbonneau
Sergei Makarov
Claude Provost
Rogie Vachon
Eric Lindros
J.C. Tremblay
Sven Tumba
Jiri Holecek
Tom Barrasso

Removed
Mike Gartner
Steve Shutt
Dick Duff
Dino Ciccarelli
Mats Sundin
Edgar Laprade
Harry Watson
Bernie Federko
Ed Giacomin
Leo Boivin

Mikhailov could not be added because Ciccarelli was already removed.

You added. I removed. No sense to add Carbo without Provost, yet Carbo deserves. Bondra is the first RW I thought of ( you added him, so he was in).

Funny how Gartner gets mentioned right away. You know, in 2001 when he got inducted on the first ballot no one complained about it. Why do we do it so much 12 years later? Do you that Gartner would be one of those constant names brought up if he weren't inducted to this day? He would.

People look at the 30 goals streak in 15 straight seasons. What people forget is that this streak only stopped because of the lockout in 1994. Yeah, he had 12 goals in the 48 game season and there is no guarantee he hits 30 anyway, but he scored over 30 in his next two seasons so overall he had 17 seasons with at least 30 goals. And I don't care much for generic numbers either, in reality Gartner never had less than 33 goals in those seasons. Think about that. He was good for 35 goals every year, and those were his bottom tier years. That is a long time to be scoring goals at a nice pace in the greatest league in the world. He also retired before he could pad his stats too. Gartner was good right until the end. His case is unique, but there is no way I kick him out of the HHOF.

sure there was griping at the time. but the general consensus seemed to be: he doesn't pass the smell test, but he's top five in goals and top 20 in points and how do you deny that from your hall?

obviously, as players have passed him and he's now 30th all time, the gripes have gotten louder. and for a guy who got into the hall on the "underappreciated" tagline, now that it's been ten years and we've reflected on his place in the game's history, we don't appreciate him a lick more. turns out those numbers were just paper numbers.

Don't confuse "consistently good" with great. Not a single one of his seasons stands out. 30 goals in a season during any of the eras he played in was at no point the mark of an elite player. He was, at best, mediocre in the playoffs. He never so much as reached the Stanley Cup finals. He was a non-essential grinder in the Canada Cup.

Gartner proved a 700-goal career could be unnoteworthy.
