So what will our Top 6 be this season?

I've been thinking about this a lot ever since Bickell was extended. Bowman signed him for 4 more years and at $4 mil/year, he's not really going to be a 3rd liner right? Especially with how good he looked with Toews and Kane in the playoffs.

However, Saad is going to be an absolute stud very soon, if not this season. Who gets bumped out of the top 6? I know training camp/pre-season hasn't started yet so maybe this is jumping the gun a little bit.

Are we going to see...

Bickell-Toews-Kane
Sharp-2C-Hossa
Saad-Shaw-Morin

OR

Saad-Toews-Hossa
Sharp-2C-Kane
Bickell-Shaw-Morin

This is what we should see, but won't:

Bickell - Toews - Kane
Saad - Sharp - Hossa

This is what I think we're going to see:

Bickell - Toews - Kane
Sharp - Pirri - Hossa

10-19-88
20-Pirri/26-81 Pirri needs 2 strong D-responsible F's to help- Zus might get some time here when Pirri goes into Q's doghouse like Bickell and Stalberg the last 2 years
29-65-Morin

I think this is probably it - although I think Pirri will end up in the doghouse sooner rather than later.

I'd rather see Saad in the top 6, but with Bickell's contract he is going to be given his chance. I am skeptical about him but I'm trying not to be judgmental already.

I think Bickell will get demoted back to the 3rd line after about 30 games. Sometimes he has consistency issues. But he'll probably get bumped back up to the 1st for the playoffs.

So before Bickell gets bumped:

Bickell - Toews - Kane
Sharp - Pirri - Hossa

and after:

Sharp - Toews - Kane
Saad - Pirri - Hossa

Personally, I think, for the time being, we are better off with BB playing on the 1st line Ö for the same reasons we discussed extensively throughout last season.

Besides, Saad has proven to me that he can play on any line with this team and be effective. With a bit more experience perhaps Saad will become a better finisher and hence it will be difficult to keep him out of the top 6. It would also be nice if he played meaner but thatís not about to happen. I think he would be just fine on the 3rd line for now.

That said, I wonít be surprised to see Q interchange the two players, which Iím okay with as well. I really like the potential of the 3rd line mentioned above, with Morin and Shaw, playing with either Bickell or Saad.

If Pirri or LeBlanc proves they can play 2C, then it's probably 29-19-88 and Pirri/LeBlanc between 10-81.

If netiher of those guys can handle 2C, then I wouldn't be surprised to see Kruger get another shot at 2C.

If Kruger isn't needed for 2C, then I wouldn't be surprised to see him play 3C and Shaw get shifted back to wing.

To start the year Handzus goes back to 2C and they let guys like Pirri, LeBlanc etc possibly play their way into that role.

LeBlanc/Pirri are going to play their way into the top-6, from the 4th line?

I think the top-6 will alternate with Bickell/Saad. Bickell wasn't paid 4M per because he's going to score 30+ goals a year, playing on the top line.. he was paid 4M because he can play anywhere in the top-9 and is very impactful in the playoffs. If Bickell scores 20 goals and 45 points this year, and scores at better than .65 PpG in the playoffs, while being the force he was last year, his contract will be worth it.

No way does Handzus play more than half the year as 2C. Last year was a shortened season and he really only logged big minutes after the trade deadline. Dude is old. I doubt he can withstand 82, or even 60 games as a NHL 2C

Agree with this. I think Saad will get a look at C too. Q seems to trust him.

I'd be shocked if Handzus plays even 10 games as the Hawks 2nd line centre.

You are right. Unless it's the playoffs- then he can play 1-2 series as 2nd line center- depending on match-ups.

Also agree on 29. I think Hawks are better/balanced with 29 on 3rd line. But vs. certain playoff teams that have elite checking- 29 is asset w/ 19-88.

I hope that Q doesn't feel need to play 29 on 1st line- just bcuz of the $$$.

Saad isn't a centre. He's just not. Been saying it since he was drafted.

Could he play centre? Sure. Where would he excel? On the wing.

Sharp, Toews, Kane, Hossa for sure

Bickell is next with some games down in the lineup while Saad gets Top6 time.

#2 C will be a mix of some players.

If we're paying Bickell 4 per he better be playing top 6 minutes...

The last thing I want to see is the perfect 3rd line guy making 4 per..

I suppose it really doesn't matter considering Q loves to juggle lines. You never know what he's going to do. So I guess most of these guys will get their fair share of ice time until Q figures out what works - which shouldn't be that difficult considering this team is about the same as last years team.

Saad - Toews - Hossa
Bickell - Pirri/Sharp/Kruger - Kane

The second line is difficult because you need some muscle there if you're going to have Pirri playing center with Kane and Sharp - a line like that would get pinballed. Of course that's a problem because Pirri is only capable of playing on a scoring line - he has no use grinding... I suppose the best option at 2c would be Zus or Kruger and keep Pirri on the shelf or use him as a winger which would work actually....

I agree. But Q works in mysterious ways.

He would get ping pronged as you say too. So what is the difference in that regard between Pirri and him?

Bickell Toews Kane
Sharp whocares Hossa

That's what it should be for the whole season.

Who cares?!
Well I certainly care who plays 2LC and I'm sure there may be a few others out there.
I for one am cheering for Pirri to make it out of camp plaing that role.

whocares = LeBlanc, Pirri, Kruger, Handzus, Saad, etc.

It isn't that crucial who plays there, we just won the cup with Handzus in that slot, so ya, who cares?

Shocked? Really? This is Q. Kruger/zeus each see 15+ games in the top 6.
