Phew, no upper body injury for Zucker at least.

He tweaked his groin, according to Yeo.

Listening to the post game show right now, and I heard two interesting facts.

1. El Nino said he's only been playing hockey since he was 5.

2. Mike Yeo said that Zucker tweaked his groin on the first shift and tried to stay out there, but he decided not to push it.

Oh God please no!!! You're telling me he hasn't even played hockey long enough to make good popcorn in the press box?!?! Dammit, what a waste of a trade.

Just got back from the game, a decent turn out for a preseason game with essentially all the top tier guys not playing.

The Dowell fight was more epic in person, I watched the replays someone put on here, but it didn't really do it justice. That combined with apparently his story in Hockeynews really made me root for the guy even more.

Granlund really came on in the third period, and had a plethora of grade-A passes to guys that couldn't put them away, I think with guys that can actually finish they might have nicked 1-2 more, though Smith was solid in goal all night really.

Also, my beard was on the big screen, pretty awesome.

I hope Granlund wins the 2nd line center spot.

I think it leaves us in a much better position because Coyle can just move down to the 3rd line and be just as effective.

Absolutely..Coyle would be a fine fit alongside Broziak and Cook on that 3rd unit. Plus we all know Mike Yeo loves throwing Mitchell down to the 4th line where he probably doesn't belong but if it means both Coyle and Granlund make the team I'm all for it.

That leaves Nino and Zucker battling for the last spot IMO.

What stands out to me looking at the stats (for what that's worth):

- Coyle didn't do so good on draws (38%)
- Granlund did ok (50%)
- We controlled most of the play 21 shots plus 20 blocked (41 shots directed toward their net) to cbjs 17 shots and 8 blocked (25 shots directed towards ours)
- We had too many giveaways 12 (Scadella and Blum lead the way with 2 each)
- Dumba did alright; 2nd most ice time, most shots (4), most hits (3)
- Zucker had two shots in only 7:06 of ice time

Way too early predictions:

- Granlund starts the season as the #2 center
- Dumba makes the NHL team
- Blum and Fontaine don't make the NHL team
- Coyle could play on any of our 4 lines (as a winger) and not miss a beat

Time will tell

No worries.

Zucker going down, and then Coyle seemingly disappearing for long periods of time didn't really help him either. Coyle coming out in the third for a final push helped them quite a bit, but it was too little too late.

He was definitely setting people up though, there were a few RIGHT across the face that guys bumbled, and Nino almost shelved another one but it was saved.

There were definitely some positives, and I guess if I had to pick someone who "stood out" it might be him, but it wasn't really a game where you could really pick anyone like that for the most part.

From the sounds of it we have some great set up men, but we lack finish. Sounds familiar.

Way too early to be concerned about anything though.

I hope Setoguchi will play for the Jets on Thursday so I can watch him one more time.

Oh and the game will be on TSN-Jets so...

How about trying a 2nd line of Coyle, Granlund and Heatley? I know I've said it before, but I think that line would have a bit of everything.

Heatley and Granlund didn't really work last year, but I'd like to see what they can do together now that both are in better shape.. So put Coyle, Nino or Zucker in that line too and that can be a real good line.

I usually expect the vets to help out their rookie linemates, but last year Heatley wasn't much help to anyone on the ice. We can hope it will be different this year.
