You should add players that are having a hearing to the list as "pending hearing" or something like that.

I came into this thread specifically about the Toronto-Buffalo game last night. Disappointing to see nothing about it in the table when I KNOW Kessel is already suspended for sure.

I understand that he's suspended until review as that's automatic when a match penalty for intent to injure is given, but until Shanny/Betman actually announce a number of games or revoke the penalty, I won't bother putting it up.

And no, I won't put it up as two different suspensions. He committed one suspendable act, whether it's penalized as slashing or intent to injure doesn't make it a separate suspension.

Reporting is shoddy as to who has a hearing and when. And if a player receives a hearing but does not get suspended it just serves to add confusion to the table. I've adopted the policy of only putting up actual announced suspensions that result in missed games and will be sticking to that unless there's *significant* interest from the community to do otherwise.

And Clarkson, too, for leaving the Leafs' bench during the fracas.

Nothing yet on Kessel? Should be something today yet, no?

reminder to please discuss individual incidents and their suspensions in their respective threads, this sticky is meant for tracking of incidents and the procedural/administrative issues surrounding them.
(aka talk about the kassian suspension in the kassian thread).

If they are not given any games, do they still sacrifice salary for these suspended days?

P.S.: I guess no suspension hearing/fine for Scott?

P.P.S.: Has anyone heard any word on if Ben Eager will face any discipline for his words
Quote:
“We play them a lot down the stretch, and we’re going to go after their skill players also."
(i.e. Announcing he will be targeting players on the ice in the future)

or even Kassian's comments
Quote:
"Perfect. I don't think [Steve MacIntyre] can skate, that's the last thing on our mind."
(i.e. Publicly demeaning another player)

Both are debatable whether action should be taken, but then again Avery got in trouble for talking about Phaneuf's girlfriend...

dunno how it works for coaches but for players, I don't think so. especially because they aren't paid for the pre-season.

Good point! Skipped my mind.

I wonder, hypothetically, in regular season... hmm...

I would think not for a player.

Simply because the CBA talks about how a first time offender will be penalized one day's worth of salary per game suspended while the repeat offender will be penalized one game's worth of salary per game suspended.

Obviously though.. they'd just impose a fine (as they are able to with Clarkson, up to the max) if they wanted to him them in the pockets.

According to the CBA (18.15 (c)) the salary lost is calculated based upon average salary (excluding performance bonuses) not actual salary. Which would put Kassian at $22,307.69, and Clarkson at $269,230.80

If that's not correct and has since been clarified/updated by the league please let me know and I'll update the OP.

You're correct. The CBA explicitly states that salary lost to suspension is based upon *regular season* games suspended. For non repeat offenders it's 1/195th of the salary (this year) and for repeat offenders it's 1/82nd

Just thought I'd give a heads up that the Kassian video link doesn't go to the correct video for me.

The NHL articles say $22,500 and $269,230.80 for Kassian and Clarkson respectively, for what its worth.

The Kassian value seems to just be rounded though...

Yea, I saw that. Either they rounded it or capgeek has the incorrect cap hit for Kassian (Would be 877,500 instead of 870,000). I'll stick with basing my calculations off of what capgeek says simply for consistency, I can't imaging it will make more than a few hundred/thousand dollar difference over the year.

As per TSN
Quote:
Since the ban begins in the regular season, Clarkson will play on Tuesday night when the Leafs host the Ottawa Senators at the Air Canada Centre. He is also eligible to play in the Leafs' remaining two preseason games this weekend against Detroit.
Is this true?
I was under the impression that players suspended for the regular season couldn't play preseason either?

Yes, it's true.

The rule for leaving the bench specifically states it's a 10 game suspension for regular season and playoff games only.

Yup. That makes sense. You can count on the NHL for intuitive consistent penalties for rules' violations.

"You are not allowed to play in the NHL during your suspension! Except for the next three games..."

Yep... that makes sense to me.

So because Bissonnette and Clarkson's suspensions were automatic and the rulebook specifically stipulates "regular season and playoff games", they can play preseason... weird.
