Can Kesler Return To Selke Form

He played 10 minutes in the first period last night...and over 26 minutes overall...in an exhibition game!!!

Does Torts want to hitch his wagon to this guy?

http://www.theprovince.com/sports/ho...437/story.html

And if so, can Kesler reproduce his amazing 2011 performance?

I am doubtful.

Love the guy, but I have not even seen a glimmer of that beast since then.

Well. If I remember correctly he mentioned that this is the healthiest that he's felt since 2011.

It's my opinion that the Nucks go as Kesler goes. With that in mind I sure hope so!

I don't think he'll ever score 40 again, but give us ~25 goals, ~60 points and good defensive play and I'll be happy.

I think so. But my expectations are tempered. He isn't a 40-goal, 70+ point guy. He's really more of the 30-35-65 mold.

of course he can.. if he stays healthy.

he doesnt need to score 40 goals to be selke Kesler. He could have won the year he had 25 goals and 75 points

His defense is always in Selke form but in order to win selke now, you have to put up good offensive numbers. He seems to be still quite tunnel-visioned from yesterday's game. If he can relearn to trust and use his linemates better, I think he'll have a chance.

He should have won that year rather than 10-11 which should have gone to Bergeron.

Agree, this is spot on. Needs to be better with his linemates to be in consideration again.

Kelser's problem is his health, not his game. The points will come if he can stay healthy. I am more concerned with his health and the fact that he always seems to be hurt. I don't think he lost his selke form. He just can't stay healthy.

By Selke-form you mean score 70 points? Possibly. He'll be a top notch defensive player regardless

That guy that singlehandedly took down Weber, Suter and the Preds.

Just wondering if that guy still exists.

sometimes i think about that year... i feel like it was yesterday that we were tops in the league and going to the stanley cup, and how awesome it was to see everybody downtown cheering for OUR favorite team. so much comraderie that it was ridiculous.. heck i was still in high school when we went to the cup.. and sometimes i feel like it was so long ago.. man i hope we can dominate again soon

Yeah, I would be happy if he managed 25-30 and 60-65 this year.

I don't think he will score 40 goals again. That is too tall of a task (for anyone, really). I would be over the moon to see him play like he did pre-2011, even.

if he can stay healthy. 25 goals=60pts wouldnt be out of the question. and if he can utilize his linemates a bit better, then you'll see his assists go up.

Selke winning form? Yup.

The form of his selke winning season? nope.

Honestly I like kesler better as a 25 goal 55 point guy shutting down top competition. His selke season was based on reputation he deserved the award more the 2 seasons leading up to 2011 than he did the year he got it.

I think it really comes down to whether you believe Keslers Selke year was a result of being on a powerhouse team (so much posession, amazing goal differentials and he was nuts on the power play) or whether the powerhouse team existed largely, partially or entirely because of Kesler's Selke play

I find it totally weird, with the way Henrik and Kesler are talking, that the Sedins wants to be the Selke forwards and Kesler wants to be the dynamic offensive force.

BIZZARO.

Okay. Whatever. You do that. Maybe we've been doing it the wrong day all along!

If he does and we manage to have an actual second line for once. That would be a beautiful sight to witness. Perhaps it's wishful thinking on my part, but I do believe has another miraculous season in him, provided he can stay healthy. Why? He seems like an incredibly pride individual and thus far people are doubting him; was that season a fluke? If nothing else, those comments en masse drive people like Kesler.

Kesler's offensive totals will depend on Zack Kassian. If Kassian lives up to expectation with the twins, you'd imagine Kesler would be off that top pp. If Kes isn't on that top pp unit, don't expect big numbers but at least we'll have secondary scoring. It's basically as simple as that.

Plus, the Canucks still don't have a puck moving defense man on the roster so, who knows if it will be successful at all.

Kesler is great off the rush, that 2010-2011 team had the best transition game of any Canuck team I've ever seen. We're nowhere near that level now and it hurts him.

Flukey by about 10 goals. A 31 goal, dynamic two-way force is still a dynamic two-way force.

Don't care as long as he's healthy and shows up on both ends of the rink in the playoffs.
