“You know it's an exhibition game but at the same time you create winning attitudes. It was nice to see especially some of the younger guys step up and play well tonight.''
“We've never had any question about the offense. It's great that the young guys are stepping up and contributing. It's all about confidence in this league. When you can get everyone on board- I thought the more impressive thing was how well we played defensively as a team. We managed the puck extremely well and that's been our achilles heel the last couple years is maybe not holding onto the puck and making the plays and the coaching staff wants that and we did that tonight.''
"A lot of guys were blocking shots. ...Our defensemen were gaping so we were eliminating rushes from them right in the neutral zone and when we did give up a shot we weren't give up 3 or 4. We were getting pucks to the corner. We didn't spend a terrible amount of time in our zone. We did in the 3rd a little bit but again I sit there and look at odd man rushes. And how many did we give up? Can't sit here and say we gave up more than 3 for sure. It's probably less than that. I think in the past and especially the short time I was here last year we were giving that up in a period. So it's good. It's good to see guys are competing hard."

Look for the fourth line to hit hit hit. When they were together here in Syracuse, as well as Norfolk, the opposing team HAD to have their heads on swivels as they did not know which of the three forwards was going to lay the body on them and hard. Neilson is going to be on cloud 99, way above cloud 9. Will be a fun game to watch.
Honestly I love how the coaches seem to handle the rookie question right now.
First off, for me Johnson is a lock, so are Killorn and Palat. Palat on the forth and Killorn next to Filppula and (hopefully) Purcell.
So basically we have 2 open spots. Both wings next to Johnson. And right now 4 guys are competing for it. Drouin, Connolly, Panik and.. yes Palat (so, earning him 3rd line minutes, sending Pyatt to the forth and a kid down).
Drouin struggles a little bit at center, Panik is neither extremly bad nor extremly good. And Connolly impresses all over the way. So I expected them to give Panik and Drouin another chance to come up to Connolly.
Instead they give Connolly a chance to really run away with a secured job. And I just love that. It's perfect for his confidence and obviously his mental fitness was his biggest problem 2 years ago. On the otherside it pressures him to impress again. And thats the perfect situation IMO, if he impresses again (scoreboard is obviously just one thing), I think he secured himself a spot next to Johnson and absolutly deserves it. If he has an average game, he is still ahead of the other two, but the situation stays the same as of yesterday evening. If he has a bad game, everything is wide open.
My prediction is: Connolly will get the right wing job and rightfully does so, Drouin will get his 9 games on left wing, but has to really really impress in those 9 games, because otherwise they will send him back. Panik will first go down and if there is no injury, he has to hope, that Labrie and Palat are both not good enough to earn an upgrade (Labrie as full time 4th liner and Palat as Johnsons wing). But honestly I think, that will happen. Drouin goes back, but Panik will have to wait till an injury happens.
I can't believe that the Blues are starting **** over what an 18 year old kid did by accident in his first ever professional game. 1) I agree that it was a suspendable hit but it wasn't really that bad. Sobotka DID lean forward moments before contact, 2) Erne was very harshly suspended for it, 3) Erne got sent down to the minors, 4) half the players that are playing tonight weren't even dressed when it happened. Over reaction by the Blues.
