I don't think it has anything to do with distant history.
I'm not talking about the Leafs "glory" days when they were embarrassing Ottawa every year in the playoffs 10 seasons ago. That's definitely a non factor, both teams are completely different.

It's the build-up, the media attention, the hordes of Leaf fans that swarm the building...the players are not oblivious to this and these are games they want to win badly. Ottawa has never been in possession of a goalie that owns the Leafs, and as much as Reimer played extremely well against Ottawa last year, the Sens goaltending was not up to the task.

And that's why I think Lehner is potentially the answer. Kid played every game against the Bruins last season and Ottawa was in each one. Anderson gave up some stinkers at bad times against Toronto and ended up killing a few games.

All that said, as a fan I don't think the boogeyman will ever go away until there's a playoff series under the Senators belt.

I'm predicting a Kadri/Prince fight. Not sure why, but I just get the feeling they'll both be at each other all night.

Projected D: Percy-Phaneuf. Gunnarsson-Marshall. Rielly-Ranger.

For those interested.

8 Regulars in(10 if you include Ranger and Raymond). Still a competitive roster though.

Bernier getting the start
Clarkson, Van Riemsdyk, Bolland, Kadri, Kulemin, McClement, Colborne, Phaneuf, Gunnarsson, Ranger, Bernier

I count 11, at least those who are under NHL contracts...

Big deal, 11 regulars vs 12

If they sign Raymond (proven NHL player), it's 12 vs 12

I feel the same way. Lehner is just fierce. Sens need to get it out of their heads and play their own game.

Not to nitpick, but Colborne isn't a regular(yet) and neither is Ranger(despite 1 way contract).

Maybe the extra Leafs fan craziness is due to today being a full moon.

MacWilliam is apparently playing. That guy was stirring **** up in the rookie tournament and had some nice hits. Doesn't look like he can play D, but he's a real physical presence. I'll look for something to develop there tonight.

I think Blassie Freddy Claesson is playing with Wiercioch tonight. Philly and Wideman will be a pair.

I think they have Cowen and Wiercioch penciled in as a pair to start the season with Wiercioch getting first look at the right side (tonight). If Cowen were ready, I think he'd be in the lineup tonight and playing with PW.

Quote:
When Cowen is ready to get in a game, look for Cowen and Patrick Wiercioch to be a pairing, behind Erik Karlsson and Marc Methot. Chris Phillips, Joe Corvo and Eric Gryba round out the group.

Among other things, Cowen and Wiercioch have to sort out who plays the right side, Murray noted.

“I think they’re top four defencemen in the league now,” he said. “The two of them are young, but they look like they’re in that category.”

Eeeesh. I don't like the Phillips - Gryba combo. We'll get pinned in our zone for sure with those two trying to get the puck out.

You'd probably see Phillips-Corvo more often than not. Just my guess though.

FYI, MacWilliam isn't playing tonight.

The first two games for us, he has been a standout due to his defense and physical play. Kid looks like he could be a solid 2nd or 3rd pairing guy down the road.

good luck tonight guys.

We are sandwiched between two original 6 teams. It's never going away.

Too bad. I'm sure they'll be enough **** disturbing on both ends anyways, but I was curious to see him against NHLers. GL HF

For a game like this, I'd expect that there will be a stream at some point.
