Holmgren is the worst GM in the league. What an awful contract

Cap hit seems alright depends on term. To me he always seemed like one of those players that could fall off in a couple years.

That is a good contract. Read is a very consistent player. He is capable of putting up 20 goals and 50 points every season. If Hartnell gets injured or plays bad, maybe Read gets called up to the first line were I do not think 30 goals and 65 points is totally out of reach if he plays with Claude Giroux.

Only when the Flyers resign somebody...anything under 4 million is a great deal for Read. He was 3rd in ice time for Flyers forwards last season and plays in all situations. Heck of a underrated player if you ask me. There's not really a good reason to think he will fall off IMO besides blind speculation.

Defense/Goaltending still need some tweaking but the core of forwards they have are locked up long term. Giroux will be the only one making over 4.75 million for the next 3 years as well. Great deal for what he brings.

Hell yeah. Read is a really underrated player.

Versatile, good offensively and defensively. Just a guy that a lot of teams would like to have.

Plays great 2-way hockey, point on pp, pk, 4 on 4, both wings as well as center, really in all situations up and down the line-up and produces. This is a steal compared to some contracts that have been given out recently.

This thread is awfully quiet from other teams fans who show up right away to bash Homer.

Fair deal now, might look really good later. 20G scorer who can play good D, and might get better still.

Great signing. I really like what Read brings and that's a bargain for what he's capable of.

Not a bad deal, although Philly now has 57.198m commiteed to 16 players with 0 goalies signed for next year. Brayden Schenn is an RFA, Timonen and Meszaros are UFA's

Timonen and Mesz are 10 million, including with the cap rising, but also not included Giroux's rise.

We would imagine that only one of the current goalies will be getting an extension, and Timonen is likely to take a sizable pay-cut if he returns, Meszaros will most likely be gone, and Schenn won't be getting much of a raise unless he has a huge breakout year.

Great deal! Continue to score 20+ goals a season and it's fantastic.

Pronger's $4.94 million will be going on LTIR again, and Meszaros is almost certainly not coming back. They will just have to have a bottom defensive pair making reasonable money for once. Maybe it will be Morin and Gustafsson.
