Taylor Hall Comments On Fans Booing

don't know if this story was discussed....

Quote:
Perhaps, The Edmonton Sun supposes, fans in Edmonton need to chill out a little bit.

“I would have to agree with that statement,” smiled Oilers winger Taylor Hall. “I know that our fans can get restless. They’re almost too knowledgeable about the game. If you go down to Phoenix, they just love to watch hits and see nice goals being scored.

“Our fans appreciate a nice chip to a supporting winger, but they also know that our team has not done as well as they have in the past. At the same time, if they don’t think we hear the boos, the heckling, we do, and you just have to drown it out as much as we can. But it can definitely be tough some times.”

Better play = less booing.

It's easy.

Brace yourselves... the Hall to Phoenix proposals are coming

Not much to discuss in my opinion. Highlights the pressures of being a player in a hockey crazy market pretty well.

Lucky for him, this isn't MTL.

It's good that he doesn't appreciate it. I think that's the point.

While I agree...start winning and people will likely boo less, this comes across as a Sun created story.

The harshest statement is made by the writer, not Hall.

Yeah, if you play like the Oilers did in the first two periods against Devils, you deserve to get booed.

Suck it up Hall. My favorite player on this team but you make more in a game than most people make in a year, deal with it.

I understand his point of view, he just needs to know that the booing is moreso of the organization rather than the players themselves.

Aside from 2006 when we went on our miracle run, we haven't had much to cheer about since the late 90's 8th place battles. Really we have only had maybe 4 years of actual entertaining teams since before Taylor Hall was born.

If he looked at the context, maybe he could use it as motivation to bring the fans what they deserve.

Or maybe he could ask for a trade, which I would totally understand - we are only slightly better than florida on the ice in the last 23 years.

Exactly. It's not like people are going to be like "Oh no, they heard us??"

Fans in Phoenix cheer goals and hits? I hear crickets when I bother to watch those games.

Anyway, grow up Taylor. Win games make the playoffs and you'll experience support like never before.

I think it's pretty easy to say "suck it up princess, you're getting paid millions to play a game," however at the end of the day booing your own players is going to rub some people the wrong way. Some of them will fight through it and perhaps be better for it, but chances are we'll lose some talented players moving forward if we continue like this.

It's just extremely unfortunate that players won't want to be here because as fans we can't stop heckling the guys playing for us. But try explaining that to average joe and the response is going to be less than receptive.

I like that he's honest though.

Most players would just stare blankly and say they only focus on their own play or what's happening on the ice.

Give me a ****ing break.

If that proves to be the case then my opinion of modern hockey players just dropped even further. Athletes in other professional sports understand that booing comes with the territory and it's becoming more and more apparent that hockey players have extremely thin skin.

Try playing in Montreal, or New York, Taylor.

Play well and the people will cheer... did he not like the response he got when he scored? they didn't boo him for scoring, the place went crazy

Furthermore, I'm sure a lot of you folks have played competitive hockey before. Winning games doesn't exactly just come down to "trying real hard." Yes, if you try hard you'll look like you're putting in some effort, but what it really comes down to is confidence. Some games you feel good and you feel like every shot has a chance to go in. Other games you feel like crap, rush your shots, make bad plays and so on. What do you think is really going to give a player confidence, cheering or heckling? It's just so counter-productive to boo your own team, it's unreal.

Win, and there won't be booing. Be 0-2 on the season and down 3-0 halfway through a game with 11 shots on net after 7 years of no playoffs and that is what you get.

Also, Edmonton fans are paying $200 for a pair of tickets to the game. Yotes fans pay like $20 for their entire family of 5 including drinks, hot dogs and parking. Damn straight Edmonton fans are expecting more. We're the ones supporting their insane salaries, not Phoenix.

Hall has to understand that the booing isn't just in response to the play on the ice. It's pent up frustration and anger, directed at management and seven LONG bloody years of ineptitude.

Again. Suck it up.

I don't like booing at all. I use only positive reinforcement for puppy training and it works perfectly but, a crowd getting involved in the play with some brews = it's never going to change.

What we need to work on is being booed in other arenas.

If that were true, wouldn't it make more sense to stop giving the inept organization money?

Just to play advocatus diaboli here a second: what's the point of booing, exactly? Like, is it suppose to accomplish something or is it just catharsis? Because I have a real hard time believing players don't know when they are stinking up the place and need us fans to tell them through the medium of boos.

Also: just because fans have the right to boo, doesn't mean players have to like it.

Finally, I dunno about the rest of you but I was saying "boo-urns."
