Defensive strength apparent in Edmonton Oilers prospects awards

The 2013-14 season was another disappointing finish for the Edmonton Oilers, who ended up 28th in the league, but at the prospect level, an increasingly large crop of young talent has shown promising development.

Seven different players (Tyler Pitlick, Oscar Klefbom, Martin Marincin, Taylor Fedun, Brad Hunt, Laurent Brossoit, Will Acton) made their NHL debuts this year while many others made the jump to professional hockey, or have assumed larger roles with their current clubs. A number of the accolades below could have been awarded to multiple players, but the following prospects have earned recognition in their respective categories for 2013-14.… read more

Good stuff, nice read. Seems like the Oilers are doing well at every level except for "Oilers" lol.

A good read. I think the Oilers might have a few gems from picks that weren't lottery picks

Seventh-round selection Greg Chase has been defying all expectations since almost being overlooked at the 2012 draft

Greg Chase looks like a steal, and I know that you aren't supposed to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I keep wondering how the Hell he fell to the seventh round. What kept teams away?

I kind of lost track of Slepyshev; I've been following Yakimov more closely, but Slepyshev seems to be tracking well, as well.

And that article didn't even mention Kharia.

A lot of potential in the group coming up. I am not exactly sure why some have said our forward prospects are not that good.

They all seem to be tracking well, have NHL size, have solid potential NHL skills levels...

I much prefer our prospects right now compared to any other in recent memory.

Long ways before they break into the NHL but a solid group IMO. Especially since we are already flush with top offensive talents.

Apparently he's a bit of a dick. Hopefully he's the good type of dick.

Don't remember where I read it but he's apparently pretty cocky guy.

The Oilers sorely need an agitator. I think that it's on-ice antics only. Haven't heard otherwise. I know that you can't tell a lot from interviews, but he seems like a pretty good kid in the interviews I've heard, a team-first guy, for sure. He is painfully difficult to play against, no doubt, which is certainly something that we need more of in our line up. I know Moroz and the Oil Kings don't like playing against him.

So I was reading this write up today and I came across this, which I thought it was interesting.

Quote:
Slepyshev may look to transition to North American hockey next year, where he would likely find a spot with the Oklahoma City Barons.
It does appear to be speculation, but could Slepyshev be coming over? Can he even come over at this point (Contract, etc)?

Everyone keeps on saying that size matters, especially for Oiler forwards.
