Fo sho. 10k+ in Portland. Would be nice to inspire the lads with a crowd to counter that attendance.

I think the big thing for the Oil Kings is to cut out the tentative play to begin games. Those early goals are killing their confidence. IMO, if they keep the Hawks scoreless in the first period of game 3 they'll be in a good position to win the game.

I do like the amount of physical play from the Kings- it'll be key for any Edmonton comeback.

The Lazar line has to get going. Curtis in particular has looked slow in the series.

The one thing that has surprised me in this series is:

1.) how many turnovers the Oil Kings are giving up in the neutral zone.
This is Portland's style. They force teams to give up turnovers (like 50+ a game) and capitalize. However, i didn't expect that to work on the Kings. It has.

2.) How well Portland is playing defensively.
In the regular season, if you watched portland play, you'd think there is no way they could beat the Oil Kings once let alone 4 times. Their defensive play looks memorial cup champion quality.

The Oil Kings need to limit their turnovers more, and grind out goals. They need to set up in portland's zone, cycle the puck and make it happen. They aren't going to score on the rush because Portland will be confining the Kings to limited space, and any rushes will have to go through at least 4 defenders still. (This is why Lazar hasn't looked great)

If the boys are going to have any chance in this series, they have to win this game.

The Oil Kings will be up 3-2 if Samuelsson's goal stands.

Looks like a kick to me though.

That's not a kick. There isn't even a back swing.

Oil Kings getting hosed.

It was clearly a kick. His foot moved forwards and propelled the puck into the net.

Who's the PBP guy on Shaw? I remember this jackass last year taking potshots at the Oil Kings in the final minutes of game six.

Big one. Can't believe Dumba blew that chance in the slot.

I don't know, maybe I don't watch enough WHL hockey but its a gong show. More like watching Rugby. Portland is getting away with murder out there.

Can't believe they pulled that out.

The reffing was absolutely atrocious tonight. What a joke.

What a hockey game. Hell of a comeback by the boys, especially considering the delay caused by the Samuelsson review and being in a 2-0 hole out of the gate. Kudos to Jarry on an outstanding performance and huge mental toughness to shake off the early 'Hawk goals.

Kulda and Moroz had solid games. The entire back end was stellar and Bertolucci was buzzing all night. On the Portland side, Bjorkstrand had his best match of the series.

Reffing was an adventure- definitely some headscratcher non-calls, but on both sides.

Attendance was ~6700, but it was far and away the loudest of the playoffs.

Game 4 should be a blast- hopefully more of Edmonton shows up for this one!

We saw tonight what's needed to play the Winterhawks. They can play physical, but they don't like it when it's sent back their way. They slowed down about midway through the second and began getting more tentative as the game wore on and the OK's started ramping up the physical play. That's what they need out of the gate tomorrow night. Take it to them early and hard and they'll start wilting.

OKs need to stop falling behind against the Hawks less than 5 minutes into the game. They were somewhat lucky that the Hawks didn't win tonight. This win does give them the confidence that they can beat the Hawks, though, which is important.

That's a good point.

Portland's speed is just so deadly. Their transition is so fast and they are extremely good at scoring off the rush, but the boys have to find a way to contain it. Falling behind every game right away just kills the confidence.

They have to hit the Cheater Hawks at every opportunity. Samuelsson has stepped it up. Lazar and Moroz need to do the same. If Jarry plays like he did in the last 56 minutes, that would also be helpful. Great game. More fans should come out tonight.

Am I out of lunch thinking ticket prices (ranging from ~ $55 - $32 per ticket via ticketmaster) on game day are outrageous?

Budget. I love Oil Kings hockey a ton, and I go to whatever games I can afford. Right now, that was the only one.

But I do want to get season tickets if I ever get rich and famous.

Not at all. I bought two tickets for yesterday's game, and by the time Ticket-moocher had gouged all their "auxiliary fees", two $26 tickets ended up costing $63. The tickets weren't even that great - they were all the way up in 215. Just this past March, I bought tickets to an Oilers game in the 300's for a much cheaper price via Stubhub.
