Toronto-Dallas

Saw this proposal in the Franson thread and wanted to know what other stars and leaf fans thought about it.

Radek Faksa

Cody Franson

Seems reasonable for both sides given their current situation.

Yea... no.

We don't have room for Franson right now, nor should we be giving up on a guy like Faksa this early. He went 13th overall and was touted as a top 10 pick. Had a rough season last year but he's looking great so far this season.

Maybe after this year, but definitely not before. Faksa was hurt most of last season and it kinda stunted his development. He has shone flashes of greatness this pre-season, and if he has a full season of uninjured first line development, I can see him becoming a poor mans Bergeron

Not to knock Franson, but he most certainly isn't the defenseman that Dallas should be shopping for right now. They have enough young up-and-coming blueliners already, and what they need is a more proven top-pairing guy.

Moving a stud forward like Faksa to create a logjam on the blueline, would not be prudent.

Given the contracts we currently have on defense and the need for a new deal for Dillon, adding another defenseman who is looking for a long term and/or high money deal isn't good financial planning.

Teams don't trade first round players a year after they are drafted.

Sure, in the old days when you could buy a team. But we are focused on drafting and development in the cap-era.

Nonis giggles like a school girl says thank-you. Jim wouldn't do this deal unless he gets injuries on his blueline.

You're right, they're traded 3 years after.

It's ridiculous how far he's fallen down the Dallas prospect list after an injury plagued season.

I don't think the poor man's needs to be added. I think the 60 point elite defensive NHL upside is still there. He's a lock with a 3rd line floor, due to his defensive ability, size and skating IMO. One thing that he did improve on last season was his defense, which was already pretty good the season before.

Particularly with how good he's looked in pre season, I don't think his ceiling has changed much, it will just take a little longer to get there.

This is a fair trade imo.

Franson's value has decreased because of his contract situation and Faksa is an ok prospect. Faksa isn't worth that much because he just had an absolutely awful season last year.

Franson is a nice young D-man who could do a lot for the Stars, actually a fair deal, and regardless of what any poster says, any player can be traded at anytime. Whether they were just drafted or not.

I think its a pretty fair deal. Dallas might want Colborne thrown in so theyd have an NHL ready C prospect to place the loss of Faksa, though theyd then have to add a pick or something.
