Ryan Jones

Elliotte Friedman ‏@FriedgeHNIC 28s

Hearing EDM's Ryan Jones is going on waivers today...also told Oilers said his EDM/NHL career is not over if he works on his game

any takers?

He's a good, hard-working player, but he just hasn't delivered in the preseason. I'd be shocked if he's claimed, think the Oilers will send him to the AHL and try to get him to work his way back to the NHL.

I think the eye injury and cap hit will be enough to scare off other NHL teams.

I remember him being an okay option for bottom 6 duty but read eye injury here, is that's what's hurt him?

Jones has scored 18 and 17 goals in consecutive seasons. He must have really lost his discipline to become waiver fodder so quickly at only 29.

Edit: I see he had an eye injury? Maybe that's a big reason.

Well, they just re-signed him to a rate that may see him go unclaimed, but imho he should be.

Ah, the eye injury. If it's a bad one, the signing may have been just 'the polite thing to do' then.

Haha everybody mocked me when I said resigning this guy was a joke. Looks like the Oilers agreed.

Really bad preseason for him... bold move waiving him especially when you just singed him.. A lot of pride involved. Letting go of someone the last GM signed wouldve been a lot easier. Brown\Eager etc

Not a giant guy, but I've seen him play a lot over the past few seasons and I've always thought he brought exactly what the Oiler lack. Interesting they'd expose him to waivers like that.

I would have thought there would be some desperation and urgency after having to wait so long for Oilers to re-sign him and a new coach that has been very clear about what he expects.

Lost his roster spot when his good friend MacIntyre was claimed.

More like lost his roster spot by playing like a ECHL 4th liner during pre season.

I've liked Jones for a while. I think the potential is there as a tweener 3rd/4th liner.

I wouldn't mind if the Canucks picked him up.

That stopped after eye injury... he basically just skates around accomplishes nothing... on his worst nights cheats and still gives up the puck or takes it nowhere

I had hoped he would come in with a chip on shoulder... play the energy game he was known for... instead he was worse preseason than any game he ever played last year and that is saying something for a guy who had 2 goals in 27 games

FLA VAN CGY... wherever... he is a nice guy and when on was a great add... I hope he catches somewhere and figures it out

I really hope he can find the jump and aggression towards the puck that made him an effective player.

He isn't a scrub. He just got passed on the depth charts by better, cheaper options like Joensuu. And he really didn't have a good camp.

I hope he passes through and the Oilers can use him as an injury call up later this season, but I expect someone will grab him for bottom 6 help.

Whats the matter, won't drop the gloves? He's (was?) a pretty effective role player, not entirely useless

New York Islanders will pick him up. They are the kings of waiver pickups.

I am a fan of Jones but he has played like crap / outplayed this pre season, I think somebody will take a chance on him but if it hopefully he can find his game in the AHL and make it back to the Oilers.

He was smoke and mirrors. Lots of hustle and effort to accomplish very little. Fooled some people by scoring a few goals for a stretch, but that offense went away and now he does nothing but skate hard and accomplish little.

Scoring 18 goals and 17 goals while making less than 1.5mil isn't accomplishing a little. Oiler fans always want more from guys for some reason.
