Dubnyk was rusty at the start let in a softie, makes 3-4 flashy saves that people always seem to want from him and then the rest of the game you don't notice him which is fantastic. Total stud!

If only the Oilers could be 4-1-1 to start the season.

Man, that would be sweet

4th line remains the biggest ?.

D is easy for an armchair GM. top 9 is set.

Nice.

Jones can go bye bye. I don't even like his skating. He doesn't do anything out there.

Love Jonseau

Bye Jones Omark NSchultz hopefully.

Oilers look tighter this year even with half an NHL lineup

Jones' entire game is predicated on cherry picking/breakaways and the occasional "oops the puck bounced off me" goal.

Watched the last 10 minutes of the game and thought they looked great. Sounds like Acton, Joensuu and Pitlick were standouts. Joensuu's looking like a hell of a pickup.

Fair to say Larsen and Belov have the D spots locked up?

Jones will still make the team I think, we're just too thin upfront and Pitlick despite the hustle is not an NHL player just yet.

The eye injury did a number on his confidence.

If Belov doesn't make the team, I will be convinced that MacT is calling the shots.

I'm praying that Joensuu carries this into the season. WHAT A FIND
There's no way that Jones or Eager should make the team but they both will unfortunately. Both have been subpar this whole preseason and that's being kind.

Pitlick played great, perfect 4th liner type of game, couldn't care less about the stone hands if he continues to play like this. He earned another game before he gets sent down.

Larsen does what Grebs does but better. There's no reason why Grebs should make the team over him or Fedun for that matter but he will.

Acton pretty much won the 4th line spot. It's not like he set the world on fire but he was the best of a sad lot. I'm really disappointed in Lander, I expected a lot more from him. It doesn't seem like he has improved at all in the last 3 seasons, i'm honestly getting a little worried about him and i'm not one to worry easily.

Dubnyk was good yet again but of course, his detractors will ***** and moan about the one soft goal.

Yup. I'd dangle N. Schultz and a 2nd for a 3rd liner that is solid in his own end.

Guess the Omark experiment 2.0 just isn't working out. Was hoping for the teams sake that he may have improved himself over the years. I'm no Omark hater, but looks like he just doesn't have what it takes.

Otherwise though pretty happy with the result tonight. Feels like for the first time in ages Oilers management actually made the correct additions during the off season. Ference is going to be a real Gem for us, he's so well conditioned that he'll be able to maintain a high level of play until an older age than most and a guy with his work ethic and attitude will be a superb mentor for our blue chippers named Nurse, Klefbom, and J. Schultz.

Also Gordon, not a flashy guy but he's the kind of player that could be the rock we build the bottom 6 around. Just plain and simple solid play.

And shouldn't forget Joenssu, I still want to see more to prove that he can stay consistent but if he does then we're laughing. I was bummed when Harski left but so far he's an upgrade and a half.

Bye Jones and Omark. Jones hasn't been the same, since his eye injury. Poor guy.

I like to think of Omark and Jones' regressions as signs of this team getting better. The level of competition is such that these guys who used to look "average" in prior camps/NHL play look like complete duds now.

eg) Jones scored 17-18 goals for a last-overall team. But when this team was actually making a run for the playoffs (last year) he was a dud.
Omark had 30pt in 50 games or so for a last-place team. But looks like dog poo this year.

Acton proved he can be at least a threat to score, which is what you want. (I don't care if it was flukey, he went to the net.)

I didn't see a whole lot because i had the broncos game on the tv, with the oil on the laptop. But what i saw, Joensuu was busting his butt off, the puck died on Omark's stick, and Belov makes every pass tape to tape

We can't have Arcobello be center here for a month+. He's a decent player but is not going to cut it at the NHL level.

Mac T has to make a move or we gotta start priming Eberle or Perron for center starting tomorrow.

He had a few moments early in training camp and preseason but honestly for what he has shown overall and especially in this game I wouldn't be surprised if he was cut immediatly.

He was cheating offensively all night long and was almost laughably kept from any dangerous scoring chances.

Easily nullified.

I actually feel bad for the guy cause he can obviously play better than he has.

Of course even at his best he has never truly shown he is an NHL player.

It's looking like our 6 and 7 D will be Belov and Larsen.

Pitlick looks like he deserves to be on the 4th line.

I think Omark has had Yakupov on his opposite wing each game that he's played and still hasn't done anything.

I'd be fine with the Eberle as second line C experiment. Best option that we got right now.

Acton looked good, gotta give him credit.

Belov and Larsen should be the 3rd pairing. I'm a big fan of Belov already and Larsen is slowly winning me over.

Also have to give credit to Dubnyk, he looked sharp. And I noticed the team is helping him out WAY more lately, very good work at clearing loose pucks around the net, and everyone seems to be helping in that respect. Very good to see considering Dubnyk isn't good at playing the puck and not the best at handling rebounds.

This is actually option #1 in my mind. Why not do this? It allows Yakupov to play with some talent as well...

Smyth/Joensuu Hall Hemsky
Perron Eberle Yakupov
Smyth/Joensuu Gordon Pitlick/Jones
Hamilton Acton Pitlick/Jones

As bad as Jones looked - he looks better in his role than Arco would look in a top-6 role.

We need to be active on the waiver wire though - or somehow grab some UFA's - because we look WEAK in the bottom-6 right now.

The draft pick alone should get you that, unless you think Schultz has negative value. Which he might...
