Tim Thomas signs PTO with Florida [Mod Warning Post #190]

per Craig Custance
Quote:
Tim Thomas closing in on a decision. Possibly today. Discussions continue with multiple teams.
I have a funny feeling he ends up in Florida, based on absolutely nothing but a hunch, to battle for the back-up/1B job with Clemmensen with the loser playing in the AHL.

I could definitely see it being Florida.

Not too many other teams would take a real risk on this guy but they are pretty hurting. I'm not sure they are entirely sold on Markstrom as of yet and going into a season with Clemmensen as your 1A/1B is never really a surefire way to success.

If Florida adds Thomas they instantly become a playoff contender.

Timmy will beat out Markstrom or whoever.

Gotta be Florida.

Clemmensen's surgery creates a huge(ish?) hole, there's no better fit for Thomas at this point, especially seeing as how Training Camps are about to start.

I don't think it's coincidence that this news is coming out less than 24 hours after the Clemmensen news.

Sounds about right, don't forget them carrying 3 goalies all year in place of a reserve skater.

Technically no, but they could make a trade to get the space.

There is a rumor circulating that Florida might have some interest in Rick DiPietro as well. Most likely just a rumor, but it's out there.

Calgary would make the most sense for him if he wants the #1 job

I'd try him in Edmonton on a 2 year deal.

I like your thinking. I don't know if I agree on the whole Thomas "beating out" Markstrom for that starter position, but my guess is that Dineen will be going with the hot hand like he usually does. I think it's a safe bet that Tallon and Dineen will be going with Markstrom as our #1, but having someone like Thomas, who has a tremendous career so far and could be a great mentor for Marky, is more reassuring as a Panther fan then having Clemmer back there.
