NHL players currently on Bridge Contracts

I know players like ror, kadri, pk, and most likely stepan will, or are on bridge contracts. Who are other players currently on bridge contracts poised to take the next step ala pk subban? Any insight would be appreciated, looking for surprise/breakout picks in my hockey pool. thanks!

No idea if im in the wrong section, be my guest to move this thread mod(s)

Probably better for the Trades/FA forum, as there's more interest there in Valuation of players.

I'll move it there.

Kindl from the Red Wings comes to mind. He'd be an off-board pick that could find his stride on the Wings PP. If you take his regular season and playoff production from last year, he would be on pace for 27 points. And his ice time should only increase.

Smith is another wildcard on a bridge contract.

You can look on Capgeek's Free Agents list and then just filter for RFAs in the next three seasons. I saw names like Kulikov, Gudbranson, Bobrovsky, B. Schenn, etc. but I'm not sure how many of those are just ELCs.

Currently (as in for the 2013-14 season) Matt Duchene is playing on the final year of his 2 year bridge contract.

Couturier has one year left on his ELC, then will start a two year bridge deal at $1.75m AAV.

Boedker is on his 3rd contract. Neuvirth's deal expires in UFA.

It's Boedker's 3rd contract, but for all intents and purposes it's still a bridge deal.

Yeah, but as I said, there are a lot of players out there with that kind of contract. The bridge deal's intention is to span the gap between the end of an ELC and signing a medium term, at least, contract bringing you into UFA status. Boedker wasn't coming off his ELC. It's not a bridge deal (or as Sather calls it, a gap contract). Plus, he was arbitration eligible, I think (he should've been per the rules, but I'm unclear).

Usually the 2nd contract doesnt get you to UFA status coming out. With a vast majority of contracts the 2nd contract ends with you still being an RFA and having arbitration rights.

players with 4 yrs experience are arbitration eligible...ELC ending players are not with having only 3.

A team can only file for arbitration once in the players lifetime...the player can file many times. Its possible with some RFAs > 3 yrs experience arbitration cant be done because the team filed for it.

For example With Fransen---this was contract #4. If Tornot filed arbitration last year producing a 1 yr contract --they couldnt do arbitration this year.

You misunderstood what I wrote. Bridge deals span the gap between ELC and the ability to sign the deal that brings you to UFA status, not that the bridge gets you to UFA status itself. In other words, it lets the team avoid having to offer a long term deal to eat UFA years.

Arbitration eligibility is based on the age at which you signed the ELC, but for Boedker, he'd already played enough time.

I would suggest that there's some corner cases out there in which the second one-way contract (not the second contract overall) could be said to constitute a bridge contract (if one thinks of "bridge contract" as referring to a short-term "prove it" type deal not necessarily related to restricted/unrestricted free agency - which is a semantics debate ). Nikita Nikitin comes to mind, for example.
