Definitely

The first date with my GF started at a coffee shop, moved to a Starbucks in a book store, and then ended in my car in the parking lot.

The conversation was never ending and it was an awesome sign.

And I guess I'm a bad person for never having seen Forest Gump or Pulp Fiction end to end.....

Just another group of people getting the shaft due to the shutdown.

And this is more than just the football teams. All service academy athletics are effectively shutdown.

The Navy-American Women's Soccer game has been cancelled.

Way to go Congress....

And way to be ****-tards to the DoD for not continuing to have the games because of preception about image rather than the reality that the football programs are not part of the federal government. Not unlike the ****-tards in Congress who couldn't lead their way out of a wet paper bag without sufficating first.

A lot of that is changing fast because of how the different academies are funded, so anything that isn't funded by Congress can still go on.

But the fact that someone even has to make that distinction and figure it out is....yeah...

This afternoon’s women’s soccer game at American has been cancelled due to the Department of Defense directive that all intercollegiate athletic competitions at the Service Academies be suspended as a result of the government shutdown. A makeup date is not yet known.

The Naval Academy Athletic Association is monitoring each contest on a day-by-day basis.

Notification on Saturday’s football game against Air Force will be made public prior to 12 noon on Thursday.

I saw some stuff retweeted from one of the academies today about how the initial reports of cancelations might be inaccurate and were being reviewed. It seemed like at the time things were in flux. Maybe it's settled down, I wasn't watching closely.

At this time, travel for all intercollegiate athletics is cancelled - this includes the Air Force-Navy game on Saturday, 5 Oct.

The Air Force Academy Falcons will attempt to play all home intercollegiate athletic contests but those may be cancelled, as well. Academy officials are working with Mountain West Conference officials, those teams the Falcons were scheduled to play and officials at The Department of the Air Force to make up as many games as possible.
Those are the latest news stories on their Athletic Department websites...

Naval Academy ‏@NavalAcademy 3h
ALL - No decision has been made regarding the Navy-AFA Football game. We are investigating the source of previous tweets. CDR John Schofield

Naval Academy ‏@NavalAcademy 3h
We apologize for any confusion on this account regarding the Navy-AFA football game. There is no decision. Previous tweets were erroneous.

Last update from ESPN @ 4:17pm says that the Naval Academy funds it's athletic programs through non-governmental funding, so they're simply waiting for DoD approval. Of course, that means lawyers and billable hours. The Military and Air Force Academies do fund their programs at least partially via Congressional appropriations, so their situations are different. But I guess opposing schools are offering to pay for some things so that these games can still go on.

All in all, yes, it's all garbage, and it makes me sad that these institutions have to go through all this crap. It's pretty pathetic, no matter what your political leanings are IMO.

It pretty much is a part of one party in the House that's causing all this (I could wax poetic about why I think that.), but that will be my first and last politically-related post on that subject while the shutdown lasts.

Did I mention both my wife and I are career feds?

Oh, and I do hope they find a way to do the service athletics. As long as funding is not an issue, it should be a no-brainer.

Look regardless of your position on the issues causing this crisis there is one party holding the gun here

It is their interest to do it and the interest of the other party to not back down

The next 20 hours are going to be rough physically.

My legs are dead after 50 thrusters @ 95 lbs this morning.

I have a late hockey game tonight.

Then I have to go to the 5am class tomorrow because I'm going to a day long seminar on Saturday that starts at 8:30am, so the 7am class won't work.

I will need a caffeine IV tomorrow!
