Remember when the Oilers B-Squad blanked Vancouver's A Squad the last time preseason was played? Yeah, how'd that work out for us. Preseason means sweet **** all, everyone calm down.
People call Dubnyk awful cause he let in a few goals this game, does no one remember our first preseason game this year against Vancouver where LUONGO let in 5 against us? Its ****ing preseason, it means **** ****ing all. The only thing to take from this game is that when Eakins sees this **** he cares, and aims to correct it.
Well bottom line this was pre season, it doens't count, who cares. Still a bit of a epic debacle to lose that bad to a AHL team. Luckily it doesn't count, so, lets hope they bring their A game come tuesday
pretty scary thought to be losing to dallas's b team! hopefully it was just an off night!
I don't think I can remember a single preseason where a B/C squad doesn't handily beat a more stacked team at least once. It happens all the time. Heck, we've been on the other end of those games the last few years and it certainly didn't mean we were the better team during the regular season.
Tonight's game was a trainwreck, and there ARE plenty of reasons to worry for this season (injuries at center, etc.), but I wouldn't put any real stock into it.
It'll be interesting to see who of interest (if anybody) shakes loose as teams make their final cuts in the next couple of days, and if we make any waiver claims or trades. Of course, I'm not counting on it.
If you are offended by this post, it's probably because you're ugly.
I had to say this in the last loss PGT, and I guess I have to say it in this one too. Yes, it's pre-season. Yes, it's silly to go overboard and write the season off. But you people have been telling this board to step off the ledge for the last three years. If there was ever a time to leap from that ledge, it's been the last three years. Those quotes have lost their cache, and until this team is consistently winning, people are going to be downtrodden after losses. That's just the way it is, and you guys are going to have to get used to it until things change.
Now let's shrug it off and get pumped for the home opener.

Didn't see the game, didn't really care to for that matter but i just went through the GDT and now this one and give me an fn break. Talk about overreaction.
What i find funny or should i say sad is that after the wins, some of you were saying that the wins don't mean anything because it's preseason but now that the team lost, it means everything.
I don't expect this team to make the playoffs but it has nothing to do with an utterly meaningless preseason no show.
I said it after the last game. Most of the players have mentally checked out this preseason now that the roster is set. I'm not surprised at all that they mailed it in tonight, absolutely nothing to play for. I'm sure that Eakins will be pissed regardless, he wouldn't be doing his job if he wasn't.
i pretty much ended on the overreaction part...
can someone please tell me... WHAT IS THE OVERREACTION..the people thinking we are locks for the playoffs because the other teams played half squads and went through the motion while the oilers due to being a second tier club had spots available for AHL talent players thus created urgency and competition for the craptastic loser players, or is it overreaction to see a horrible showing by the full squad and a telling sign of what the beginning of this year will be like.
29 other teams want those playoff gates and have their jobs and lives riding on it. are you made better than them? look at the roster. think. evaluate. mhmm.
wild card is what eakins and mact do with this ahl roster. People can say what they want about the bottom 6 but every playoff team has a legit bottom six...guy who will dominate their shifts.
I hope Eakins and MacT can make moves on the fly this year like 06---where they changed alot of their roster on the fly.
For those comparing with 06. The Oilers got a hart trophy winning defenceman (the first of those in a generation), an all star selke centre, and added a top 6 sniper who had the uncanny ability to have chemistry with that enigma hemsky, two top 4 d-men in return for crap prospects, and a starting goalie who got hot for a draft pick. all that and that team squeeked in to the playoffs on the second last game.
im a fan and i will be watching... but if we do anything this year it will be MacT working his butt off and uing up his phones warranty, and Eakins crackin the whip.
for those who thought alot about beating the jets and games against 1/4 nhl teams who were under orders to not compete...and just "stretch it out" for the real season? you might need to get some heart medication because this is going to be a VERY bumpy ride.
Difference between having NHL players locked into spots and having an AHL tryout for openings? NHL teams just want to get through these stupid games unscathed.
Preseason means NOTHING. Games begin OCT 1st. expect injuries. livelihoods on the line, lives on the line, careers on the line, reputations on the line. good luck.

GSP wasnt playing tonight so were okay when he suits up next game. And Yak I'm sure will get 1st line duties soon enough and we will have some toughness up there. On a bright note, Eberle threw a half hearted butt check tonight. baby steps.
While the bipolar reactions of this boards are commonplace, tonight showed that a simple game can still beat the Oilers young and experienced players. As they got more frustrated, they forced more passes and pretty much fell apart. The loss meant nothing, but the way they lost was totally familiar.
It's fair to be disappointed that despite all the changes the team is still (more) inexperienced and the wheels fall off easily. I don't know if that can be 'coached out' in a season without bringing in more anchors, but all the defenseman we brought in can't compensate for the forwards forgetting how to play.
After such a poor showing, you think they would have been able to bear down and manage 5 minutes of sustained pressure
i just hope eakins doesnt horcoff boyd gordon by overplaying him into injury... because he has no other nhl worthy option but to do that.
for those that think Hall i an NHL centre. LOL. the games and coaching haventeven started yet.
if i was a GM with a NHL quad and my coach was making my NHL players go full out for pre-eason nothing, worthless, forgettable games? id fire him, or take him out back and severely whip him... then tell him he is fired next time. All NHL teams are thinking is let the hacks play and let the NHLers stretch.
The lack of compete in front of almost 9000 fans on Oklahoma City tells me a lot about this team. At the very least they could have delivered a show for these people. I'm not concerned about who won or lost but I am concerned that they disrespected their fanbase like that. Classy...
