Value wise, Thornton > Sundin (based on age, salary, potential, etc.), they could get a lot more if they shopped him... and Bouwmeester >> McCabe / Kaberle. Really doesn't need explaining.

PS: imo, i don't see JFJ having the ball$ to pull off these kinds of trades. unless, of course, he's told by the hire-ups to re-build this team.
JFJ would have to have balls to pass up on these kind of trades (and Im a big Sundin fan). O'Connell and Keenan should be fired on the spot if they accepted them.

If I was Keenan, I wouldn't trade Bouwmeester for McCabe AND Kaberle

Yep, Keenan likes going over to Jay's house to help him polish his trophies.

Well, you know the ones he got in junior.

Wow, y'all sure do like a kid who has yet to even reach the output of either of these guys. Not saying they would take it, salary alone.

I will say it. I think the kid is overrated. I think he was rushed to the NHL and it hurt him.

I don't know what we could give up to get him, but I would really love to see John Madden in a Leaf jersey.

I believe I heard rumours that NJ may buy out his contract.

Really? He would be a terrific addition...great speed, and is awesome defensively too. Just what we need.

come down ladies... it's not like i expect these trades to happen, or something. they're fantasy trades.

however, as good as joe and jay are, they both have their faults, and reasons why their current teams would trade them if the right deal comes about. and boston & florida could do a lot worse than sundin, mcabe/kabs.

From Vancouver: Bertuzzi
To Vancouver: Antropov, Kaberle, Ponikarovsky

Then sign Kariya and have a 1st line of

Kariya - Sundin - Bertuzzi

grit, speed and leadership, looks like an awsome line to me

The day the felon Todd Bertuzzi puts on the uniform of my beloved blue and white, I become a fan of Carolina and/or Nashville.

May Bertuzzi never play a game again anywhere, let alone for my beloved Leafs.

Read Mat's clear and coherent post, word for word.

That's how you figure that.

And you think the Leafs have any defenseman more promising than Bouwmeister?

How do you figure that?

I did read it clearly. He said Boumeester IS better.

Not the case.

If you feel that trading away your top defensive pairing for one player who is still in the early stages of development is a good idea, then I'm at a loss.

If I had the option of trading McCabe and Kaberle for Bouwmeester I'd do it in a second. Why? First because I believe Bouwmeester will be a star defenseman for many years to come. You could then easily turn around and sign another star defensive with the money you freed up from McCabe and Kaberle like Pronger/Foote/Neidermayer etc. A pairing of Bouwmeester/Pronger is way better than McCabe/Kaberle.

Those would be two amazing additions, and probobly make Toronto a instant number one contender. But we still need to shore up the offence, I like Allison, probobly more than Lindros, and maybe Toronto could fill the roster out with some good young guys like Stajan, and a couple lower level free agents, who knows. Getting both Foote and Pronger though is probobly better than anyone can ever expect.

I'm not really sure how you can say those additions make the Leafs a top contender when the rest of the league has not made their deals?

Eddie is a question mark and the forward corps looks shallow as it stands now.

Everyone is questioning Eddie, but he's the guy I have the most confidence in. I have felt that our forwards have been somewhat overrated for a few years (while our defence tends to be underrated imo).

But you're right, we can't tell anything until the dust settles a bit more. The NHL could turn upside down in the next fourteen days.

Count me in as a Belfour supporter ..

Eddie and Telly together make 5.0 mil ..

That is fine in a Cap world even at 39.0 mil

Better ways to find money then that .. IMO.

I'm all for that if the Caps want to take McCabe's contract.

Kaberle-Witt would be a sweet pairing
