I'd say Holland is more ready for the pros at this point. Etem is a decent grinder, but should go down and figure out how to score first IMO...Holland has already grasped this concept at the AHL level, and thus deserves a chance to show it for an extended period at the NHL level. The trade for Perrault made this moot, but I'm not exactly sure where Etem fits on this team anyway. We have players more deserving like Winnik, Beleskey, Palms that are going to have to sit for someone who may or may not be ready. May as well send him down and let him refine his game a little. Just my .02 cents
I thought we were talking about who deserved to play in the NHL more. And who has produced more at the NHL level. Would you have denied Skinner a spot on the team because he had never played in the AHL? I don't think I've ever seen this argument before. This makes a greater statement that the team thought Etem was ready for the NHL quicker.

As far as your second point, I can actually relate to you on some level not knowing where Etem fits in. I'd like to think he could be playing on the second or third line, but chemistry always tells a different tale. The fact of the matter is he probably ends up with Bonino and Maroon/Beleskey. Regardless of what line he plays on, he's going to make an impact. Honestly I find it absurd whenever people think a player's development will immediately become stunted because of playing on a lower line. He's getting easier matchups, and not playing outside of his element (i.e., he's going to play the same game on any line that he's on).

Great Point!

Etem 10pts in 38 nhl games

Holland 6 pts in 25 nhl games

check the ppg, if we are going by numbers here i guess etem does deserve a spot over holland

Etem vs. Holland likely isn't about production at this point(and this includes NHL production).

It's about roles. Holland has shown more offensively, but he hasn't really given Anaheim a reason to try him in a role that isn't, primarily, a scoring one. Etem was a pretty decent depth/energy forward last season, and even if his offensive game was underwhelming, that's a role he can fill that Holland can't.

I'm starting to think Holland would be best suited to move to a scoring wing and just try to play on the 2nd line. MP22 has bumped him right off the depth chart.

It sure appears that way. Getz/pearl/koivu/***** and you can make a argument about winnik and rakell

Maybe put Holland with Getzlaf and Perry. Left handed stick with a good shot, and a big body...worth a shot.

If he's switching to wing, I'm going to need to see some points at wing at the AHL level first

Honestly wouldn't have had a problem seeing this, no one else has worked there. But the coaching staff didn't think he was suitable for it.

Speaking of which... how long until Penner ends up there? He's quietly been solid.

I think it should be tried before trading him. If they can free up a roster spot.

Yeah. But from that thread it sounds like he is Philly's version of Sbisa. Great expectations that are far from being met. I don't think we need to go down that road with somebody else's problem child.

Sucks for Pete. If they're set on him being a center he'll have to wait until Koivu leaves or retires, or one of our centers gets injured.

There's 20 or so games this year where he won't, and all of them next year. There will be likely be injuries to multiple players as well. If they think he's ready, there will be opportunities.

I'd rather see Bonino on that line so it stays a skilled shutdown line and let Holland try to run a scoring 4th line.

I also think Etem is a better fit on the top line and Palmieri is on the 2nd.

I want them to try Etem on the first line just to see how it works this year for a couple of games maybe when Selanne sits.

He's waiver exempt until he's 23 or he plays 160 NHL games.

Rules are here, just disregard the team they root for

Thanks. I ran it through the capgeek link but the result was still kind of confusing. It say 1 more year (not counting this one) or 118 more games. That would seem to give him all of this year and most of next even if he played 82 games this year which of course he won't.

I did the calculation on capgeek a while ago and he has the rest of the year before he's waiver eligible.

Well, I guess that means Bob can still try and get something for him as compared to lose him for free. Although his value isn't going to be too high at this point.

Disregard them? The only thing Etem fanboys ever point to is how great his playoffs were (when he was scoring 1 in every 4 shots, because that's not unsustainable at all).

Etem is becoming by far the most overrated player on these boards
