Not so sure that's the wisest decision for the younger.

/armchair scout with literally no viewings of either

He's already 22 and would graduate when he's 25. He's probably doing the math and figuring that it's now or never.

He also already has two years worth of education under his belt, despite being a rookie.
Despite making the Dean's List last year, he was ruled academically ineligible to play (it's the NCAA, it doesn't have to make sense).

Just curious - Are they looking to sign with the same team?

Sounds like something Burkie may try to work out. My money's on the Flames for both of them. From what I've read they sound like they're worth a gamble - even if it only winds up helping the Heat.

The #Flames have signed defenceman Brett Kulak (@bkulak3) to a three year entry level contract

Well, I was right about them signing somebody today - just not who I predicted.

Was just watching a Giants game on my PVR and thinking "Shouldn't the Flames have signed him by now?" Solid player. I'll be interested in how he develops, he's played on some really bad Vancouver Giants teams, they're finally starting to find their way this year.

Bob McKenzie and Mike McMahon believe the Carey Brothers are down to Minnesota (mentioned by Bob) and Edmonton and Chicago (the latter two mentioned by McMahon).

McMahon says Minnesota is clear-cut favourite for Greg Carey, but that Edmonton, Minnesota, Chicago and Philadelphia are in mix for Matt Carey.

Avs also signed 2012 draft pick Troy Bourke to an AHL try-out, too. You would think an 85 point season would be enough to get Bourke an automatic ELC, but not yet...

If he signed the ELc and went to LE, wouldn't that burn a season ?

He could sign an ELC that starts next season (he'd still need to sign an ATO to play in the AHL, though)

Nope. He'd just do what many players do, sign their ELC which kicks in next season and sign an Amateur Try-Out with Lake Erie. BTW, I'm not saying Bourke won't get an ELC, generally when teams sign an already drafted player to an ATO, they usually end up signing them to an ELC a little later down the line.

I'd be very surprised if Bourke doesn't sign an ELC, Colorado doesn't have many forward prospects.

#Coyotes have signed free agent forward Greg Carey of St. Lawrence University (ECAC) to a 1-year entry-level contract.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 4m
PHX signs college UFA Greg Carey of St. Lawrence to entry-level contract.
