The poisoning relieved them from the cap hit, as he was put on the disabled list. When their prospects started to mature (Archagathus in particular), and Agathocles refused to retire, they had to finish him off though. Brutal, but fiscally responsible.

Hockey is...a different game now.

I think it's funny to be honest.
What's even more funny is that Kadri (or possibly Carlyle) missed the entire point of the "burn your boats" metaphor. Cortés had defied the Governor of Cuba in going to Mexico and could not return there (or to Spain) lest he lose his head. Unless he could conquer Mexico and return a hero. So Cortés was motivated, but his men - well, they weren't so keen on going to war with the Aztecs. So he burned their boats. Not because they were looking for treasure. Because he wanted to give them a choice - fight and maybe die, maybe win with me, or just die.

Now don't get me wrong. It worked. Cortés and the Spanish conquered Mexico. But he didn't do it to give them a choice of treasure of death. He did it because his neck was on the line and he thought it only fitting that the necks of those who served him be put on the line too.

For the record Cortés got the idea from Tariq ibn Ziyad who pretty much did the same thing for the same reasons 700 years before Cortés during the Muslim conquest of Iberia. He probably stole it from someone else too, but I can't recall anyone before that. So in summary - burning the boats. Used by lousy leaders to motivate their men for at least 1300 years.

The "coming in peace" is easily the most overused expression on this site....

Incredible GDT! Just astonishing...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadie..._Leafs_rivalry

The Canadiens–Maple Leafs rivalry is the oldest in the National Hockey League. From 1944–78, the two teams met each other in the playoffs 15 times, and faced off in five Stanley Cup Finals. While the on-ice competition is fierce, the Leafs-Habs rivalry is symbolic of the rivalry between Canada's two largest cities: Toronto and Montreal. Both teams have fans across Canada (and beyond); allegiances are no longer as strongly determined by language spoken as in their early histories.

History + Hockey =

Go Habs Go!!!!

I always thought it was one of the better rivalries in sports in terms of cultural and historical impact.

I don't think the Habs are going to live up to the GDT if they give their usual lacklustre HNIC performance.

Hopefully just a coincidence, but Michel Therien asked me how to get **** stains out of bedsheets.
