I'll tell you what, I like Brian Flynn as much as the next guy but what should really be happening is this.

Girgs - Grigs/Larsson - Grigs/Larsson
Flynn - Porter - Kaleta

McCormick

I get that three basically rookies on the third line is perhaps a concern but Flynn is there now and his experience isn't very big anyway.

What's to be nervous about? This team can only surprise in a positive way. If they suck, it's to be expected. This is an enjoyable, relaxing way to enter the season IMO. There is only one way to go and it is up.

Completely agreed. I haven't been this "zen" about a season in a long, long time.

I'm normally paranoid that we're going to flop on our faces.

This year, I'm just hoping to see progress over the course of the season.

Wow... ESPN has hockey on front page.

Probably won't see it there again until Stanley Cup

Really excited for this season to start. I don't expect the team to do much, but it'll be fun watching all the young guys this season. Time to dust off the DVR!

Or a major suspension/injury. Bonus coverage if it happens in a fight.

Against Detriot I agree, but if we're playing Toronto, Boston, Ottawa, etc...then we should play McCormick. Especially if Foligno's injured.

Mindless crap as he always does say. Was faulting Miller for the season. Pretty much insinuates that Howard is way over Miller for the Olympics.

Howard probably is over Miller for the Olympics who are both beneath Quick. Even Anderson is probably above Miller. Miller has a lot to prove.

Milbury is a punk though

TONIGHT’S GAME: SABRES at RED WINGS
  • First of four meetings between the Sabres and Red Wings this season.
  • Last meeting: Detroit defeated Buffalo, 5-0, in Detroit on Jan. 16, 2012.
  • The Sabres are 2-6-2 in their last 10 games vs. the Red Wings; 1-7-2 on the road.
  • This is the 117th game all-time between Buffalo and Detroit; Buffalo leads the series with a 53-47-16 record. The Sabres are 19-33-7 on the road against the Red Wings all-time.
STORYLINES
  • Tonight is the Sabres’ first game against their new Atlantic Division rivals. The Sabres will face Atlantic Division opponents in three of their first four games.
  • The Sabres are opening their season against the Red Wings for the fourth time in franchise history (1975-76, 1976-77, 1999-00). They are 1-2-0 in the previous three, with the home team winning each time.
  • Buffalo is 18-23-1 all-time in road openers (including a 7-8-0 record in season openers played on the road). The Sabres last opened their schedule in Detroit 14 years ago today, with a 2-0 loss on Oct. 2, 1999.
  • The Sabres are looking for their first win at Detroit since their 3-2 shootout victory on Oct. 13, 2006. The Sabres haven’t won a game at Detroit in regulation since March 10, 2002 (5-1).
  • Christian Ehrhoff leads all Sabres with 15 points (5+10) in 26 career games against the Red Wings. Ehrhoff, Steve Ott (28 GP) and Cody McCormick (11 GP) are the only Sabres skaters to have played at least 10 games against Detroit.

So Quick is the third goalie? Is he sure Tim Thomas isn't ahead of all of them

I've always liked Howard but c'mon, he's the 3rd goalie out of he, Miller, and Quick.

Ryan Miller will be the #1 goalie for team USA at the Olympics. People don't realize that Millers best 2 seasons were in 05-06 and 09-10, which shockingly were both Olympic years. Miller at last Olympics put on the best goaltending performance since Hasek in Nagano.

Why isn't anybody talking about Cory Schneider - he's every bit the equal of Quick and better than Miller and Howard.

Lou Lamiorello knows a little something about great goaltending.

Cory Schneider

201112 .937
201213 .927

Jonathan Quick

201112 .929

These kinds of things mean nothing to me. It doesn't indicate Miller will be better than the other goalies this time around. He needs to prove himself with a strong start to the season and a strong Olympic camp.

Totally agree with this. Excited to watch the kids play, but I have no expectations for this season.
