Draft Lottery - Kings in decent, but not great, position for Crosby

From TSN.ca
The lottery formula is as follows - each team begins with three balls. For every playoff appearance in the last three years or No. 1 overall pick over the last four years, a team loses one ball. But each team will still be guaranteed to have one ball in the lottery. The first round will go with teams picking 1 through 30, with the 30th team picking 31st and the draft order 'snaking' back and forth in a seven round draft.

The frontrunners to get the kid are:

- Buffalo
- Columbus
- NY Rangers
- Pittsburgh

The Pens already have Malkin...with Crosby they'll have a lethal 1-2 punch at center for 10-15 years.

LOL! i just posted this right now on the mckenzie top 30 thread...

Quote:
Each team starts with 3 balls.

Eah playoff appearance in last 3 yrs = lose 1 ball.

Minus 1 ball for any #1 pick in last 4 years (FLA's pick traded counts vs. FLA).

Minimum 1 ball per team.

7 round snake draft.

Next Thursday, Jul. 21.

I would love to see Crosby play for LA. That being said I don't see it happening. As long as we don't pick lower than 10th I will be happy. Go Kings!

Kings have a 4.16% chance of landing crosby...

after the first pick, here is the subsequent percentage of the kings chances in getting the next pick...

2nd - 4.26%
3rd - 4.35%
4th - 4.44%
5th - 4.55%
6th - 4.65%
7th - 4.76%
8th - 4.88%
9th - 5.00%
10th - 5.13%

edit: percentage will go higher if team that gets pick has 2 or 3 balls in the mix.

Seriously. I'd love to see Crosby in LA but I'll be happy with Brule, Johnson, Ryan, Pouliot, Skille or Latendresse.

So where is the info saying the ENTIRE draft will be decided by a lottery and not just the #1 pick?

Top 10 pick and will be fine. Anything higher than 15th pick would just be wrong.

The draft is seven rounds. Each round flips. So if the Kings get the number one pick, they would pick last in second round and so on. Where ever each team lands with their "ball" pick, that will be the order in which the draft goes....it's not just for te number one pick, but the whole draft.

Top 10 would be nice, but whoever picks Sid won't get to pick again until 60th. Still, I'd take that any day of the week.
