Yeah I see what you are saying.

Best hope for this team is that Gillis is removed (just promote him out of the GM chair) and Tortorella is allowed to remake the team as he sees fit.

Gillis can't do the job. How many useful free agents has he attracted? Under Gillis the team has become a pariah franchise and draws outrageous attention from the dopes in the head office, every chance they can find. This the most reviled team in a laughable league. Good luck doing a trade or signing a free agent without drastic action.

Should have just injected some youth with Shinkaruk and Horvat. Surround them both with NHL talent like Hertl. I don't think Hertl is miles better than Horvat or Shinkaruk.
Hertl is also turning 20 in November, he's two years older than Horvat or Shinkaruk. Let them develop, their turn will come.

Not to mention that he spent the past 2 years in the Czech top league (and was one of the top players there) and is 6'2", 210lbs. The guy is used to playing against men, is big and is older.

D.Sedin-Kesler-Hansen
Higgins-H.Sedin-Burrows
Booth-Schroeder-Santorelli
Richardson-Dalpe-Kassian

I hope they try this at some point. Each line has a certain compliment of player types, which could mean ice time gets spread more evenly throughout. Booth with Santorelli. Dalpe (shooter) with Kassian (passer). Kesler gets to play with Daniel, a player that could set him up well and take the pressure off from him, and Henrik plays with 2 very smart players to create their push.

if they were to split the twins I think it would be something like this

Burrows Sedin Hansen
Sedin Kesler Kassian
Higgins Schroeder/santo Booth
Richardson Santo/Schroeder Weise

Yes, that works too. My thought was to keep Higgins in the top6 instead of Kassian, for the time being. I really do think its time to split the twins for a bit, to give this team more depth and balance out Kesler's line.

The other point was to lock in Dalpe and Schroeder as the team's bottom6 Cs for a while. If they want to start developing their youth, stabilizing them in these roles is a good place to start. They aren't overtaking Kesler or Sedin, so then assigning them the remaining 2 spots seems the way to go. Both Santorelli and Richardson can insulate them in those roles too.

But Jensen didn't prove he can play at a NHL level in the preseason.

It was more of a facetious, our player should be at that level, kind of thing.

If we cant pull off a trade, do we take a serious look at signing Vinny Prospal to bring in some offense?

I'm beginning to fear what Gillis might do at the trade deadline.

Well if the team looks like **** and is playing like ****, I hope he doesn't do anything either. More rentals aren't going to help.

If we're treading water with the Sedins unsigned we have to look at moving them and hope we can get them back in the offseason.

gillis acquired booth only a few games into the season two years ago...in hindsight he's been a disappointment, but he needs to make a similar kind of acquisition for a forward that can provide some spark to a stale group of forwards

the only caveat is that we absolutely cannot throw away any more draft picks...bad enough we've thrown away a 2nd for roy and a 4th for dalpe in a short timeframe with absolutely nothing to show for it longterm

The only player with a decent sized cap hit we can move is Booth, everyone else has a NTC. I forget what the rule is about trading injured players (if you can or not), if we can't then we can't move Schroeder or Jensen.

Do we do a Booth for Erat swap? Or something to that extent?

Injured players can be traded, provided both teams have full disclosure.

Erat was terrible in Nashville and apparently has done nothing to disprove that trend in Washington. If we are going to make a splash, Cammalleri is who I'd target. He expressed interest in playing for the Canucks before - he had us on his short line before signing with Montreal. Salary wise, it's doable if Calgary agreed to hold quite a bit.

Given MG's track record in trades I'm worried of what he will and won't do!

Yakupov's value is at a all time low, try to make something happen. Most likely impossible, but I think the oilers would listen if it involved kesler.

Yes, kesler for yakupov, The guy is gonna be a stud, he is slumping right now but his skill set is off the charts.

He is a guy who could be on our top 6 for a long long time.

Not to mention we could bring guys like horvat up next year play him as a #2 Center, and move up gaunce as a third line C, Hunter as a LW, and Retool this ****ing old ass team.

We will suck for a few years, but who cares.

It does not even need to be yakupov, Trade kesler for any TOP end prospect who can score. Kesler's value is still off the chart, it won't be if he struggles all year.

It's not a bad idea, but trading Kesler would basically signal the start of a re-build and if you're going to do that, you might as well trade the Sedin's at the deadline as well.

I just don't see us getting anything close to equal value for him. At least equal value that will help us this season.

Rebuild is getting rid of everybody, Retool is getting rid of a few pieces.

Trade kesler for a top end young guy
Keep everybody else
Let the kids make the team next year
Sign some heart and soul guys during FA with the extra cap.

I would love to see Booth, Higgins, hansen, Sestito, Weise gone and replaced.

With anything.

going into next season, i'd love to see

Sedin Sedin X
Burr Kes X
Shinkaruk Horvat X
X X Santorelli

would love to see what FA brings. Anything is better than the garbage we have.
