No need to panic. We're in a playoff position despite playing only one home game and we've got the season's toughest road trip in the rear view mirror.

I'm actually feeling mostly positive although I'm more upset about not re-signing Andre Benoit than about losing either Alfie or Gonchar.

Sens are not in a playoff spot and have played bad in every game this season.

Definitely worth repeating.

When a 40-year-old is eating up prime minutes and in your top 6/top 2 pairings, your team is in one hell of a lot of trouble in an 82-game season.

Remember everyone, it is the middle of freaking October! I'd rather have the team catch their wind and IMPROVE all year than peak before Remembrance Day.

Does anyone here actually think those geriatrics in Detroit are going to be going balls to the wall after January, in an Olympic year where half their roster are halfway to the grave already?

As of the standings today, if we beat Detroit they would have 12 points in 10 games, we would have 10 points in 9 games, two points back with a game in hand of the second place team in the conference.

Chill the F out. We're a good team, just need to adjust to the new post Alfredsson, Silverberg, Gonchar, etc. reality, and integrate the new bodies we've brought in.

note to those panicking about wiercioch as gonchar replacement

wiercioch
8gp, 0g 5a, +2

gonchar
8gp, 0g 1a, -5

(although i agree we are missing the leadership of gonchar)

It's going to take a while for this team to reshape its identity.

They've taken 5 of 6 points from Eastern opponents so far. That's something...

Maybe West is just best? (1-3-1)

Why would Detroit go "balls to the wall" after January when they more than likely will be in a nice playoff spot by then?

As for "half their roster are halfway in the grave already. "

Red Wings age:

35-40+ (5):
Alfredsson, Daniel (41)
Bertuzzi, Todd (38)
Samuelsson, Mikael (37)
Cleary, Daniel (35)
Datsyuk, Pavel (35)

30-34 (5):
Franzen, Johan (34)
Zetterberg, Henrik (33)
Kronwall, Nicolas (32)
Weiss, Stephen (30)
Tootoo, Jordin (30)

26-29 (9):

Eaves, Patrick (29)
Ericsson, Jonathan (29)
Gustavsson, Jonas (29)
Howard, Jimmy (29)
Miller, Drew (29)
Quincey, Kyle (28)
Abdelkader, Justin (26)
Helm, Darren (26)
Kindl, Jakub (26)

18-25 (6) :
Smith, Brendan (24)
Glendening, Luke (24)
Andersson, Joakim (24)
Lashoff, Brian (23)
Dekeyser, Danny (23)
Tatar, Tomas (23)

Five players 35+, we'll put those as "near death".
Five players 30+, we'll call those "rapidly aging".
Nine players 26-29, we'll call those "mid-late prime".
Six players 18-26, we'll call those "Blooming".

Seems like a very balanced lineup. The vets will get "maintenance days" (and our blooming to rapidly agings are already getting these...) and Babcock will scale back their icetime as needed. The Wings are very much a contender this year and we would do well to pound the living bajeesus out of them Wednesday and come out with a win. A loss to them is completely unacceptable given we lost our face of the franchise to them. Statement made with a solid 4-1 or 5-2 win, or statement failed with the same score in inverse?

The thing is, every single top 6 forward is 30+.

When most of your core guys are in the 30+ group, the team is going to hit one hell of a wall in a long 82 game season. Remember, it's also an Olympic year, and a big chunk of those 30+ guys will be playing halfway across the planet for that, too.

Detroit looks good right now, but I seriously doubt they'll be looked at as contenders once we hit April. They'll be fading badly by then.

I'm interested to see tonight's SJ -Detroit game...see what the Wings do against the hottest team in the league. The Wings have the advantage being at home, but I think SJ will still whip 'em.

I think the real issue here is the mental game. At this level, 90% of it is mental. The media has done this stupid West>>>East for a few years now, and I think it is affecting a lot of the players. Sometimes it looks like there guys a beating themselves more than the opposition. We could've beaten SJ, Anaheim doesn't look all that wonderful, while Vancouver, Phoenix, LA and St. Louis don't feel like genuine contenders to me.

I definitely think the guys have been looking forward to this game against Detroit. We'll see if they become our next Toronto (as in, we're jinxed and have yet another kryptonite team in our own division), or our Buffalo (good rivalry, and we tend to get the 2 points no matter how much we stink in the game). Of course, it'll take more than one rivalry game to set the stage with them.

I just saw (or should I say pay attention to) our schedule for the rest of October.

I'm panicking, it looks like we're not going to win an other game until November. (Who, thank god, look lightly easier)

Yeah, as much as some of us might be collectively ******** our pants, I hope the team is approaching this game with a better attitude.

I hope we pound them.

BRIAN MURRAY should be our GM and COACH!!!

Honestly.

If it wasn't for our goaltending last year, where we got some of the best statistical goaltending in the history of the NHL we would not have made the playoffs let alone won a series.

This guy has been a complete x and o’s buffoon since he came here.

Bobby Butler.. Does anybody remember the Bobby Butler Saga? The coach had crush on him. Put him on the fist line without any production until our GM basically removed him from the team.

He talks about "accountability" but he doesn't really act like it. If our best players play motto was true than cowen should not be on the top pairing...

WHY ON EARTH is Cowen playing on the top pairing. He has been god awful except for a good 5 on 3 kill last game. He should be be playing on the top line.

Finally. The guy KEEPS playing musical chairs with Spezza’s line. Its unreal. Give him some players and stick to it.

Can you believe he had CHRIS NEIL as Spezza's winger for 3 games this season lol.

If he doesn’t put Spezza and Ryan together in the third period to try to get the team going this guy has no clue. The Turris line has been pretty invisible this game (as the whole team) and if there is a time to try to make a move to get some offense its now.

BRIAN MURRAY if you are listening I have two words for you. PAT QUINN!!

He was coach and GM. You were by far the best coach we have ever had. BY FAR.

Sac the Mac and take over the bench. What a MASSIVE upgrade that would be.

GO SENS GO.

This isn't a panic thread.
We have a great foundation to build a team around just a terrible x's and o's coach.

Goaltending saved our bacon last year. Some of the best goaltending in the history of the NHL, not "great coaching."

Granted..

Maclean might have been a good motivator but when it comes to coaching strategy and knowing how to manage players and good players.

THIS GUY SUCKS.
