The aspects of a championship team: 2 premium centres (Crosby + ____ ), at least one Norris calibre defenseman or two (or more) high calibre defensemen (Kalinin plus ______ ) , a game breaking scorer (Vanek) and game-stealing goaltending (Miller). Winning the lottery would give them filler for one of their biggest weaknesses and nicely round out their core. I wouldn't tweak that unless that package is substantial (say Weiss and JayBo plus ).

Vanek-Crosby-Pominville
Hecht-Briere-Pyatt
Roy-Connolly-Afinogenov
Peters-Gaustad-Mair

Kalinin-Hamrlik
Mckee-Zhitnik
Tallinder-Fitzpatrick/Brown

Miller

I'm assuming this is a few years down the road? Are you trading away Ales and Drury, etc...? What about Paille, MacArthur, etc...?
The top line looks nice, but, say, instead of J-Pom, how about....Stafford? As a all-around player who will stick up for Vanek, though probably not through fighting.

Yes this is based on 2-3 years from now.

I am probably gonna get blasted for this, but I honestly believe Stafford will not be an NHL regular, and this isnt based on all of the Rasmusuen (sp.) or Dixon Wardcomparisons. Its just been my hunch ever since we drafted him, just a complete hunch. I have only seen him play in a couple of games, he seems like a decent player and all, but i just see him as a regular AHLer/Call-up kinda guy...

flame away...

As for Drury and Kotalik thoguh, Drury is a little overated and overpayed. If he wants to take a pay cut, then i would love to keep him around. Kotalik seems as thoguh he is on Lindys "poop list", so i would be suprised if he stuck around...

I'm not sold on that for Crosby. You only get 1 proven player out of the deal, and he's a #3-4 dman. I'd love Rachunek, but not at that cost. It seems like alot for one or two spots in the draft, but in the end I don't think it's worth it. Then again, if you look back at the Lindros deal, I think the Forsberg side ended up being the better.

I'd absolutely jump at a deal with Ottawa, but I'd rather have Redden + Spezza + 1st instead of Chara, and I think it's a bit more believable too. Thinking of a Redden/Kalinin pairing with Spezza playing center between Vanek and someone else makes me even happier than thinking of Crosby.

Well, assuming we do win Crosby... I would try and shop the pick definately. If we could pull off another Lindros deal, then it would be two doses of good luck And yes, Ottawa is one of the first places I go. And the first player i ask for is Marian Hossa.

Hossa and Vanek on the same line, a year or two down the road... that would be just crazy

I think Crosby is somewhat overrated, certainly on these forums, and i think a good return for him would be....

A young, talented forward, or top prospect
A young, talented defenceman, or top prospect

and thats it, IMO. But if it were the right players, i would pull the trigger no problem.

I doubt we will even have the decision to make tho.

I'd ask for Havlat, Volchenkov, 2005 1st + 2006 1st.

While I like that package, I think Chain is right in that we need a potential #1 center coming back our way to become a legit cup contender. If that happens, I see keeping Satan and Zhitnik around and happy to be a whole lot easier.

So, Spezza, Volchenkov and 2 #1 picks.

I love the idea of getting Volchenkov... We need that kind of hitter on our blueline.

Ta,

That would be a good return for sure. They would have to be really high on Crosby to make it tho.

I agree with joechip, i think Spezza would be a more likely return, perhaps Spezza + Volchenkov for Crosby? I see that as a fair deal. I think if they added 2 1st's, then we would be winning the deal fairly easily, especially if its a high pick.

I still laugh at the fact we are talking proposals, like we've already won Crosby. Like i said before, its highly doubtful we even get to worry about this issue
