Montreal has poor odds for #1

We lose 2 balls! We have a 1 in 48 chance of, same as Toronto, Ottawa, NJ, Detroit, etc.

(edit odds per Komisarek8's count)

I don't expect to get crosby but anything is possible, I'd be extremely happy with a top 10 pick, I'd be amazingly happy with top 5. Should be interesting. Every team has a chance, I'd be super pissed if TO got crosby.

The way I'm trying to look at it: we have better than a 20% chance of picking in the top-10. It could be almost 30% depending on which teams land the other picks. 20-30% chance of a top-10 pick is still more than we had going in. And with the snaking plus the uniformity of prospects outside of the top-15 or so, I'm thinking the risk of picking later is mitigated nicely. So it still works out to a better scenario than we would normally expect to have.

According to RDS Crosby could be a UFA at age 25 still pretty young...we probably wont get him now but who knows in 7 years...

I guess the normal UFA age will drop to 27 (from 31) and from 10 to 7 years in the league which would explain why he could be a UFA at age 25.

Absolutely agree. I don't see all this fuss over Crosby. I mean, for one, we never really had a shot at him anyways. We should be extremely happy that we are atleast getting a chance to draft him. 1 in 41, so be it. Better then 0 in 48.

I would be more then happy if we got to pick in the top ten, and drafted a Defenseman. Something that we are much more in need of at this point.

If we get Crosby, i'll be happy no doubt, but if we don't, i won't shed a tear, or feel empty for a second.

(edit odds per Komisarek8's count)

To be quite honest, we have about as much chance of winning it than any other team in the lottery.

Teams with 1 ball: 2% chance
Teams with 2 balls: 4.2% chance
Teams with 3 balls: 6.3% chance

Probably about the only helpful thing of having 2 or 3 balls is that it will decrease your chances of slipping completely to the bottom of the draft but really, if we do this draft 100 times, odds are that a team with 1 ball will win the draft almost as often as a team with 2 or 3 balls.

I think Montreal gets screwed more than any other team. We get into the playoffs as the number 7 and 8 seeds and we get the same odds as teams like Detroit, Colorado and Philadephia?

well you can argue that we are in a better situation then Toronto and Colorado and pretty much even with Philadelphia.

Buffalo is scary though..I don't want him in the same division!

Guy!!! Welcome back. I haven't seen you post in awhile. And I'm still waiting for your post-season report on the defensemen (I know it's been a while, but I, along with many other right handed people, have been waiting all summer for it. Heck, all year for it).

LOL Defensemen, eh? Well I may have that somewhere 'round here. I know I did it, question is, did I delete it in a bitter blowup of rage at the greedy NHLers? I'll have a loo 'round.

As fer the draft, I was curious about it. I just got an email from a friend who said to book off the day cause we're going. We'll have to see about that. I had heard rumours that it might be opened to the public, but if TSN says no, then probably not. I'll just sneak in and weight the ping-pong balls so Montreal gets that first pick.

;-)

Could a team get the first three overall?

Is it possible (eventhough it's unlikely possible) that a team with three balls could get number 1-2-3?

The way I see it, our odds are 50/50. We either get the first pick or we don't

Let the ghosts do their work. They've been off duty for a while and we're in need of a small miracle.
