hmmmm maybe thats why it seems the Oilers are doomed for many more lottery picks

Not willing to move any to get the D help needed and/or not willing to move any for a real starter has been a bad move.

They could move any 1 other than Hall for what they need and be better for it. As of right now only Hall looks to be what a 1st overall should be. So if they wait a year or 2 and RNH looks to be a 60 point C and Yak looks to be a 1 dimensional 30 goal scorer then the Oilers will get no where near what they could by moving them now.

Oh man.. Buddy, get a clue.

Frame? Probably the last thing Yakupov has to worry about involving his style is his size/frame.

Something centered around Yak for Lehtonen with your extra goalie coming our way and our extra defender to you?

Lebrun is one of the best in the business, so I believe him when he says that (and he did say internally, so it's not like they're talking to anybody or making offers), but it would have to be an absolute stud of a goalie to be giving up Yakupov.

only way Yakupov deal makes sense for a goalie is if goalie is:
Rask
Quick
Lundqvist signed

and because those 3 teams will all start laughing at us, there is no deal both sides enjoy.

Yikes, that would be horrible for the Oilers.

If they're giving up Yakupov in a deal for a goalie (which I don't believe would ever happen), that goalie better be a lot better than Reimer.

I think PIT should trade their starting goalie for Yak straight up.

They won't need a goalie with yak in the top six.

Edmonton might make round one of the playoffs

Let me start this out by saying that this is based SOLELY off tonight's game.
I have watched Nail several times last year, but this is only the second time seeing The Oil play thus far.
Tonight against Pittsburgh, I can see both why he was number one overall and why he was benched. Dude has a mad motor combined with incredible skating skill.
Having said that, he really lacks hockey IQ that guys like Hall and Nuge had at this point.
If I were a fan of the Oil however, I really wouldn't be all that troubled seeing as he is incredibly young and incredibly skilled in many area's. When he matures a bit I envision a guy who doesn't take time off while he is in the middle of a shift. I can see why he is both maddening to a coach yet excites a fan base quite a bit.
I'd love to have a talent like him on my team, but he is going to take more time than your other youngsters to, "get it" so to speak.

Adding the first makes it yucky for the Oilers.

This isn't that bad though, considering trading Reimer and a 2013 1st to move up from 5th to 1st in 2012 is pretty realistic.

I would respectfully say no because Gauthier is too much of a question mark.

Will be interested to see how Eakins approach works, whether it's productive or counterproductive.

not enough to land you a goalie of Lundqvist's caliber.

No kidding. Just for Lundquist, I'd say Yak + 1st + B-level prospect.

Pointless, Lundqvist would be likely to stay in Edmonton anyway. Who gives up #1 overall prospect, possible top 10 pick and a prospect to rent a goalie when even that goalie won't make them contenders? They could have landed Seth Jones with that package at the draft which would have made a lot of sense.

Just find a decent stop gap goalie, suck it up for the year, and go shopping in July.

The same Lundqvist who is a ufa in 9 months?

The Lundqvist who loves the limelight of playing in a big city and who can expect offers from teams like Philly if he makes it to the ufa market ?

it was an example. i didn't actually mean that the Oilers should go after him. it was meant to gauge some value

If Yak were to be traded, and I had to guess where he was going, I'd be totally crazy and say the Devils.

- The Oilers wanted Schneider at the draft.
- Schneider has looked okay but not brilliant in New Jersey. (if they got Dubnyk back, obviously there would be other particulars involved, I think that's a decent stop gap after MB retires. Heck Dubnyk might thrive under a better coached system.)
- The Devils need an offensive punch now and in the future
- DeBoer found a way to build a winning team around a similar player (Kovy was no doubt better than what Yak is right now).
- Lou has a history of dealing with the Oilers (Arnott deal)
- Devils have a number of dmen that could be added in depending on needs (including two really great defensive prospects).

Anyways guys, really fun read. I doubt any of it would happen but it's always fun to speculate.
