I thought Demers had overall a pretty good game. He did sweep away a puck in the crease that was a 1/4 second from being a goal. He looked pretty good on the power play (albeit a power play that was pretty rubbish). If he can actual stick as a regular roster player I think he has potential.
In some way he's the lynchpin, because Braun-Vlasic looked just as good as it did in the playoffs, and Irwin-Boyle in soft minutes is still a great idea. Demers-Stuart/Hannan either succeeds or fails based on Demers able to reduce mistakes and get the puck out of the defensive zone.
Besides that, Hertl looks sublime, Kennedy is exactly what we wanted and didn't get from Galiardi, and Couture willed plays into being through sheer determination.
That was awesome. 4 even strength goals, one from the third line. That Wingels goal just reenforces my ideal 4th line when Havlat and/or Torres gets back: Sheppard-Desjardins-Wingels. That would be a sick 4th line.
Hertl was awesome, he and Jumbo and Burns were all awesome. Couture line was great after the first, Marleau was absolutely flying. Boyle was meh. Vlasic and Braun especially were great. Pavelski had some great moments, and some moments... seriously he flubbed like 4 one-timers from the slot on the PP.
Nieto clearly has talent and I believe he'll be an impact NHLer, but he was definitely really nervous and tentative. He could use some more time in Worcester, although he absolutely deserves more time in the top-9 to get accustomed to the NHL.
PK was great, and I'm not remotely worried about the PP (Nucks' PK is elite). Pelech wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting, I admit. Probably has something to do with having two competent 4th liners on his line, rather than Burish and Kearns.
Braun on postgame radio interview (before I forget / somehow lose it):
- dealt with nerves and gave home fans a good game
- team got stronger as game went on
- Braun to Pickles back to Braun shoots through screen - SCORES!!
- the pass back from Pickles lets a shooting lane open up because the forwards follow the puck over to Pickles
- yes, I'm heavily paraphrasing / dressing up stuff
