Poll: What are your expectations for this coming season?

OK, I did a thread on this earlier that generated some interest.

Recently, I said that
Quote:
If you read this board getting further than the second round does not seem to be an expectation of many.
That was questioned, and of course I only speak for myself, but the impression that I get reading here is that most have mixed feelings about our chances in the playoffs this year. But why not a poll to see what people actually think?

So here it is.

As currently constructed I expect this team to go out in the second round. My feeling is that the bottom six, to make no mention of our potential goaltending mess, is going to sink us.

what has rendered the previous thread superfluous?

the consensus appears to be that:

-the pens will contend and probably win the Metro Division
-it will seem like the President's trophy is within the grasp of the team but they'll blow against a bottom-feeder, nobody will care
-Crosby and Malkin will contend for the major trophies
-Letang and Neal will be fringe candidates for Norris and Rocket, respectively
-the bottom-six will remind many of the first time they witnessed a botched abortion
-MAF will have a mediocre regular season, his middling save percentage buoyed by a stellar win-percentage.
-the pens will bow out in disgraceful fashion sometime after the second round.

Wow, did not think I will be the only one voting for cup. I have these exceptions every year and I'm not going to lose faith lol...I know there are issues but I am optimistic.

Depends where this team finishes and who ends up being its first round opponent.

If the Pens get the top seed and play a team like the Islanders, Tampa or Carolina in the first round, then I think the Pens make it to round 2 but then get "embarrassed".

If the Pens play a team like Detroit (4th-5th seed type deal or whatever), Boston, or even Philly, I don't see this team making it out of round one.

Then of course there's the Fleury factor. Regardless of who the Pens play, they're not winning the series if Fleury plays like he did the past two playoffs.

This roster/coaching staff has a LOT to prove. Since the Cup win, they've been a joke in the playoffs and have lost to teams who were on par with them, and have only managed to defeat teams who they should have easily handled (ie. an inexperienced Isles team with shaky goaltending, an injury depleted Ottawa team).

They can be combined. I have zero clue how to do that, so if a mod wanted to that would be more than fine.

The comment above in my original post made me think that a poll would be good.

This poll could be added to the original thread.

2nd round loss.

Get another easy team in the 1st round, lose to the first good team we face.

The season does not and never will hinge on the bottom 6, or our fourth line.

Assuming Sid and Geno are healthy, I can't see us losing before the conference finals (unless we lineup with Boston, even then, it's not an automatic loss).

Fleury's the biggest wild card ever, but have we forgotten that goaltending really did not cost us our season last year? It was our stars being shut down, utterly. Sid, Geno, Letang, a combined zero points in four games? That will never, ever, happen again. Maybe they won't score enough for us to advance this season, but zero points? No chance.

I can't imagine what teams you guys think are better than us outside of Boston.

If you think our team has holes, try looking around the conference.

Honestly, I think they'll lose to the first disciplined, defensive-minded team they meet in the playoffs. I'd like to think that stuff like Letang pitching in deep like they're down by 2 in the 3rd period of Game 7 of the Finals during a 0-0 game with 15 minutes left in the first is a thing of the past with Martin around but I can't trick myself into thinking it's going to happen. The coaching staff must not have a problem with it because he pinches so often at inopportune times that it must be from design. Also expect the team to lose its cool at the first serious point of adversity in the playoffs like they have the last couple of years.

Tanner Glass plays all 82 games.

Very positive thoughts.
