Crazy that as little as a year ago I thought maybe RyJo was goin to be another huge bust... and the now I think he is an incredibly good player. I love it when this kind of thing happens. He is one heck of a player. Just awesome.

Your honor, please allow the record to reflect that Jonathan Toews played most of this year with Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa. At the same time, Ryan Johansen was playing with Messrs. Umberger and Foligno and was more productive.

While the prosecution will concede that the year is not over yet, it feels confident that the comparison between Messrs. Toews and Johansen is a valid one, and that the preference for Mr. Johansen is not unfounded.

I think the work Dubie is doing on Crosby is being over shadowed just a bit.

By whom or what? Pierre McGuire talked about Dubi as if he was on the Pens.

Unfortunately it seems as if some of this performance spike could be contributed to Joeys contract which ends this offseason, I guess he resigns with a 2 year 5.5 Mil per year contract

I thought I was jaded. I don't think Joey is playing for a contract< I think he just grew up a whole lot, got physically stronger and started to play to his capabilities.

It may save them money in the long run but it may be wise to lock him up now.

It would affect anyone, and it does. But I think he has a taste for this game, and wants to be the dominant centerman many say he can be. He got a lot of attention this season and he handled very well. He laughs a lot on the ice, thats always a good sign.

What I like about Johansen is that he has obvious skill, but he works hard to generate his own chances. I would love to know how many of his goals this year were unassisted ... there are so many that I can remember where he back-checked or fore-checked, stole the puck, and buried it on his own.

He's talented, big, strong, works hard, wants to be here, and has fun doing it. I say, lock him up long-term.

To me, it's amazing to watch how strong he is on the puck, especially behind the net in the offensive zone. He seems to rarely get checked off it. He had an amazing year, and said the right things about the playoffs after we were eliminated (i.e. so much was for the fans). I really hope we don't see a regression next year after whatever deal he gets (obviously)

COLUMBUS DISPATCH: Aaron Portzline looks at what could be a busy off-season for Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen. Topping the list is re-signing Ryan Johansen, who could receive an offer sheet if contract talks stretch into the summer. Portzline speculates the Jackets would like to sign him to a three-year bridge contract. Kekalainen said he isn’t concerned about re-signing Johansen.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I expect the Jackets get Johansen inked to a two- or three-year deal worth between $3.5 – $4 million per season, and will do so before July.

That would be nice.

So, you think an elite talent who is only 21 years old played well because he was going to be getting a new contract?

I am with you 100%. I don't care if we have to pay a little more now. I would sign him up to as long of a contract as we can. He is worth every penny he will get.

Me too. I suspect they are going to be more in the 5 mill range but I think they stick to the three year limit to keep him an RFA next go round.

However, if you could get him under contract for 2-3 years for $4MM (not sure they can but seems like a reasonable target to me) and then sign him to a 7-8 yr deal He's locked up for up to 11 years as a #1C and still only in his early 30's. That, to me, would be the perfect situation.

I think term is more important than $$$ this go round. I agree that if he continues to develop we would be in an enviable position to be able to lock him up for essentially his career.
