I've never really understood why people need simple things that they are observing with their own eyes to be described to them in great detail. I much prefer the guys calling the games on TV to tell an anecdote, or give insight into a player/coach/manager etc instead of just telling me what I'm already seeing. To each their own I suppose but it seems incredibly redundant with the invention of the television and video. I never really listen to pxp guys anyways, I'd much rather just have better mics at ice level and listen to that instead.
I get why someone would dislike a rambling pxp guy on the radio though. That actually makes sense to me.
Brown isn't funny though, that's the problem.
Since we have no choice but to watch with the pbp guys I'd rather they just stick to the game, or information related to the game. Not bad jokes and self indulgent stories
He was never good. If you can watch it on 5.1 audio, just disconnect the center channel speaker and enjoy listening to the sounds of the game with no commentary. This is especially useful when watching CBC.
i cant thank you enough for that brilliant simple suggestion.
We really are spoiled with Dean and Denis. Dean is one of the best in the biz - that's precisely why CBC hired him to do some HNIC broadcasts. Yes he tells stories and banters with his colour partner - but for the most part it always relates to what is happening on the ice.
I like hockey. I like the Ottawa Senators. The person who is talking over the game is never important enough to ruin a game. Only the Senators can ruin the game by playing like crap. It sucks that Dean Brown ruined a win for your team, but I can't understand that sentiment and don't sympathize.
I don't mind the side jokes and banter when I'm watching him call a tv game but when he's on the radio he goes on way too long during the action. It's as if Brown forgets we can't see the play so he needs to be specific.
I just find him very irritating. Im not losing sleep over it lol
listen when its an end to end game with non stop action in an opener i dont need a 3 part tale about Girgensons. or any of those other tales.
save it for a tuesday night in january for a florida game.
When the game is on call it, when there's a break tell those gems.
Also he is the pxp guy, id rather hear the colour guy add colour rather than the guy whose stories are 50 shades of beige.
