Quite sad, but this happens a couple times a year doesn't it?

I think it was the Habs who went almost 2 periods without a shot.

Easily the most overrated GM in the league, maybe in sports. Almost every move he makes is terrible.

Yeah, I was pretty pissed that Steve Yzerman didn't get down there and shoot the puck on net myself. I mean, it's like he doesn't even care anymore.

Seriously, how is this comment remotely relevant.

When your confident in your defense you don't need to shoot. Going for the shootout W.

Seems like you got a look at Jon Cooper's clipboard

Step 1 to improving Tampa's defense.

True. Tampa has always been a D-first team. Sound strategy imo.

This is literally an embarrassment for the Lightning. Ice the puck every 30 seconds isn't an acceptable strategy for an NHL team. Pronger was right to humiliate them years ago and it appears they haven't learned.

Also not relevant. We're not playing the 1-3-1. Chicago is playing really good defense, but I thought it was notable.

Also lost in that "humiliate" comment is how we won that game against Philly.

Except of course that isn't even remotely close to what's happening in this game. At all. And since there is an entirely new coaching staff, system, and philosophy since that game your comment makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Well Yzerman has put together team with the most busts in the NHL. Obviously he didn't draft Stamkos (product of MSL) and Hedman (just a bust) but he should have had traded them already. Also Drouin was a terrible pick (obviously not a bust yet but after this season probably), Connolly had bust written all over him already when he was drafted, Koekkoek was a terrible pick, Vasilevski is an overrated Russian and probably will be a decent KHL backup during his peak etc. That's why it's relevant.

Good News-They got one 130 into the 2nd.
Bad News-It was right after a nifty Kane goal

3 shots, 30 minutes in.

Hard to believe they're not winning.

Can't really blame this on the coach. Stamkos and St. Louis are invisible out there, their D is playing well and Tampa is a step behind for every puck battle. Credit to Chicago, they're playing an incredibly solid game, but damn is Tampa's effort disappointing.

Not really. I know of a few times a year where a team will go 2-3 shots a period, and the all-time worst game that i know of is 6 shots in a game.

Quote:
Which NHL team during the 2000 playoffs would record 6 shots in a game?
Toronto Maple Leafs. The leafs lost 3-0 to New Jersey in game 6 of the 2000 semi-finals. With the leafs facing elimination, the Leafs would manage only 3 quality scoring chances in the game, and would miss the net on each opportunity. Martin Brodeur only faced 6 shots; 3 in the first, 2 in the second, and only 1 in the third. Much of the credit goes to the Devils' defence, who kept the leafs from coming into the Devils' zone with the neutral zone trap, which forces teams to shoot the puck into the offensive zone instead of carring it. The fewest before the Leafs 6 shots was the Washington Capitals, who would only fire 7 shots on net in a 4-1 loss to Philadelphia on February 12, 1978.
Zero shots in a period is impressive, but for all the wrong reasons.

The thread is about a team being bad. Yzerman assembled that bad team. How is it not relevant?

Wait, you think Stamkos is only good because of MSL, and he should be traded?

Yes, without MSL he wouldn't score more than 20 goals.

Ok, I am of the mind that Stamkos being ranked as a top 5 player in the league is over-valuing him, but he would score 35-40 goals easily with or without MSL.
