He won the calder trophy, then he had two bad years, two. and then we traded rask for him, and many say it is the worst trade in leaf history...

Well yes, it is a bad trade now, but at the time, it was fine. Justin Pogge was hyped to ****, and Tukka Rask was just another prospect.

He only had 1 bad season between the Calder and the trade.

Calder season
Lockout
Bad Season
Trade

I really thought Bernier was just a product of a great defensive team playing infront of him. Now that he's playing for the Leafs, that theory is out the window for me. What a stud. Still early but damn it's fun watching him in net. Just screams confidence.

Not really:

He went on to set a team record for wins, but he was terrible. That's why they went out and traded for Toskala the next summer...

Game 82 as we're playing for a playoff spot in 2007:

Obviously it's early, I don't think the goalie battle is over by any means, but I think in the end Bernier has a superior skill set, his play is calmer and more refined. We will see though.

I hated the trade myself when it was made. Mainly because I didn't like Raycroft any more than the Bruins did coupled with concerns about Pogge's ability to take the next step. I know you can't just go and trade the world junior hero (Pogge) and I was also hearing Rask might not have wanted to stay in Toronto (not sure how true it was) so it was an uneasy situation to be in for the Leafs. My biggest lament over that period is that we didn't tear everything down and start a proper rebuild. It needed to be done and it kept getting put off.

Those highlights have way more terrible defense by the Leafs than bad goaltending by Raycroft. 1 bad goal and the rest he's all on his own.

Funny to see Kaberle tie it up with that howitzer. So many people still think he had no slapshot

There's no way you can possibly be serious with this comment so I'll just pretend it's a really bad joke

that's what I've said. i think the first four games were going to be based on how they were playing (win or lose). Bernier looks calm regardless of what's happening (which I remember reading some people thought that was a bad thing because if it's a blow out he's still calm).

He has the advantage of not being seen as much by the East shooters

I could watch this all day.

Would be awesome if when he makes the save and lifts his glove, the gif pauses for a half second with the word Burn at the bottom. Then the gif keeps going and pauses again when he raises his stick and has the word YAY! at the bottom.

Not really an advantage considering he hasn't seen the East shooters much.

hard to say. in randy's shoes, i'd put reimer back in one game, to make sure he doesn't get too down on himself and show that he's still valued (goalies are sensitive and insane), then i'd put berns in for the western swing with the explanation that he's played against them.

Bernier has faced 47 shots wearing a blue uniform.

47 shots.

2 games.

Can you people be a bit more patient before claiming him to be christ himself? Next week you guys could be licking Reimers foot

Bernier has shown he can be a far superior goalie to Reimer, the question now is can he do it consistently for an entire season?

Found this cool picture wallpaper of Bernier off google. Those who have great photoshop skills could perhaps create a season calender or avatars out of it would be nice.
