Stan Fishler: "Its settled!"

(Yes, I know. Fishler is demented and unreliable sometimes.)

It's pretty hedged...

with statements like 'a day or day-and-a-half of papering' could turn out to be a week. Also the fact that the members of the PA needs to look at it before it's announced could push it another week. And then the Board of Governors needs to meet. So, it's not done, and Stan's article cleverly states that while getting on the 'it's done' bandwagon.

Let the fun begin (i.e. buyouts, signings, trades, etc).

I've heard rumors that the lottery could be held next week. Tenative date for the draft according to Bob McKenzie is 7/30.

Lots of work to do. The end of the lockout isn't the lead story on ESPN (British Open) or CNN/SI (Baseball).

I'd love to hear the Mike & The Mad Dog show today. Probably a tepid blurb during the 20/20...then back to picking their top NBA team of all time!

Reported terms:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/story?id=2106921

"2004-05 contracts: Those contracts will simply disappear from the ledger. Players, however, will be credited with a "year of service." Years of service can determine a player's free-agent status"

I don't see why it is necessary to cap individual players contracts as well as the team ? It looks like the player cap will be 20% of the team cap??

I also don't understand this:

"Minimum salary: The minimum salary will be $400,000. Under the old agreement, the league minimum was $175,000."

Salaries go down but the minum deal goes up by $225,000.

I agree with you , it doesn't make much sense. Maybe it was a PR move to make it appear that the league was giving and taking ??? If so , it didn't work IMO..

I think they try to shorten the gap between fourth liners, the rookies and the key players. It makes sense to me.

Now it begins to be interesting. Lots of player transaction, contract buy outs, rookies from Europe to NHL and older or career AHL'ers to Europe. Looks like we (JYP fans) will lose Immonen to New York...

Maybe it's an attempt by the league to make sure there is still a reason for European players to come over and play.
