Mullen remains on the staff.

I'm not going to lie. I'm pretty happy with Chief being the new head coach.

I question the multi-year deal he reportedly received...why are the Flyers committing to him so soon? Oh yeah..because Snider and Holmgren are idiots..

McCarthy coaches the D didn't he? So this means Paddock will be out on the bench now? Good news that a well respected man that can coach defense and defensive tactics will be in charge of the me defensive systems.

^ Yes, McCarthy's primary responsibility was the defense.

McCarthy replaced Jack McIlhargey (as ass't coach) the same time Laviolette was appointed as John Stevens' replacement. McIlhargey eventually accepted a role as a west coast scout.

It's not like he's been coaching for two years. He's been in it since 2004.

Right..they were a package deal b/c Lavi said they complemented each other with the system lavi devised.

Yes, and later Jeff Reese joined Laviolette's staff. McCarthy was both a player and member of management in prior years with the Flyers, pre-Laviolette. He was with Hartford/Carolina for most of his managerial career.

He will be interviewed on 97.3 (ESPN out of South Jersey at 3:30 p.m. ET) and perhaps that will be discussed but the line that was noted in the press conference today was "we have to be much better away from the puck." There is a team meeting ongoing.

There's no actual commitment to Berube being the coach beyond this season. Just a commitment to pay him, and his annual salary is likely $1 million or less.

Honestly I think it's a non factor, if they don't get it turned around I believe Holmgren will be fired at the end of the year and I imagine Hextall would opt for an entirely different coaching staff.

Berube will bring a more defensive style, one that creates offense off its D, Homer says.#Flyers

Berube terrific choice - will have the team play more responsible and less risky . With that roster you have to play that way and he knows it ... Smart hockey guy - trust me

Chief will change - odd man rushes against - better transition game - more determination in front of both nets and more accountability

I'm skeptical, but we'll find out soon enough.
