Ray Lewis going OFF on MNF Countdown right now about the hit that the SF defender threw on Drew Brees yesterday.

I haven't seen the hit (turned on the channel right when Lewis started going off) but I agree 100% with Ray Lewis. In so many words, he basically said what I've been saying is that it's IMPOSSIBLE for NFL players to play defense right now. Flags are thrown because some hits are "hard" and not because they're "dirty".

Some of the defenseless receiver penalties I've seen recently are just so out of whack. Right to the chest, but it's HARD, automatic flag. It's ridiculous.

Ray said if the kid gets fined, he's paying half, and whipped out his AmEx

I wouldn't mind adding a piece on the OLB and/or safety spot (maybe even a bargain in the CB spot), but FA and the draft HAS to be focused on offense mainly.

I hope the Jets kick the tires on Bradford. I can see this being like a Rivers/Brees situation where the Rams draft a QB this season, and decide to trade Bradford to a team where he finally breaks out. You don't think the Chargers wish they had decided to keep Brees instead of Rivers?

The only concern with Bradford is his yards per attempt is 6.3 for his career. Even with the year he was having (even under Schittyheimer), his yards per attempt was only 6.4

Rivers was rumored to be on the block this past offseason. People forget how bad his attitude is. No one wanted to touch that contract with a 10 foot pole. This may be SD's dream, has one resurgent year and they can maximize value.

Rberger is rumored to be on the block this coming offseason. Not happy with direction the team is going in. He's a media headache for the owners. Too many sexual scandals, even if he wasn't serious about wanting out of Pitt he may have worn his welcome thin. They've stood by him thick and thin and at first sign of turbulence he threatens out? He could be on the move.

Bradford is coming off an ACL tear and extremely unhappy in St. Louis. He's now experiencing Schottenheimers terrible offensive direction. Miserable. One more year he may decline like Sanchez did. Rams are stockpiling as many picks as possible. Wouldn't be surprised if they dangled Bradford for more. He's not happy.

Cousins is the mythical QB. Everyone is saying he'd break out if he had the chance. Maybe 4 games is too small of a sample size. Seems to me like he's some sort of Matt Schaub version.

All could be available this offseason.

I understand it takes time to develop a QB but the great ones usually flash their abilities when they're let loose. RGIII last year kept wowing everyone. His accuracy was suspect yet somehow he led his team to the playoffs. Same with Luck. Luck turned literally the worst team in the league at the time into a playoff team that took the Ravens the distance. Wilson and Kaepernick flashed greatness at times too. Both took their teams into the playoffs as well.

What has Geno flashed? None of the QB's I mentioned above had any type of spectacular WR corps. Luck had Wayne, that's it. RGIII had Santonio Moss, Wilson had Sidney Rice(??@?!), Caepernick had an oft injured Crabtree. Besides Wayne, Santonio is the 2nd best of those top WR's, and while he has been injured, he's constantly being underthrown, overthrown, and put in a position to be leveled by Geno. He has 20 turnovers this year... We still have 6 games left!! He's on pace for 32 turnovers! This is unacceptable.

Besides Bridgewater the QB crop isn't anything to rave about this year either. Manziel is undersized and relies on luck far too often. Boyd is going to be a headache to deal with, far bigger distraction than asset, if you ask me. Then you have a slew of 2nd tier QB prospects that everyone is saying will produce diamonds in the rough but I don't see it either. Mariota is a product of Oregon's offense. Derek Carr is being overhyped because of the lack of dominant QB's.

So what do we do? Draft another QB in the 1st round and go through the growing pains all over again? See if Matt Simms actually is the answer? Or trade some picks for an established vet?
Rumors are rumors. Rivers and Roethlisberger are franchise players and are not likely to become available unless either team has a real good replacement in mind.

Bradford is playing fine for "Schittenheimer". Sanchez just sucked.

You think we call him Schittenheimer because of Sanchez? No, it's dating back to 2006 when he first became our OC. One of the worst play callers in the NFL. Bradford did decent this year in spite of him, not because of him.

As for Sanchez, it was a combination of Schittenheimer and himself.

I think it was easier to blame the oc than the first round qb. I remember the fans *****ing and moaning about "opening the offense." Then they got kille by the giants and all of a sudden it was to open.

It's the same thing with gilbride. Ocs are good scapegoats.

Lol, trust me..Schittheimer really is that bad. Watch every Jet game from 2006 till the day he left, and you'll believe me. Hell, even Favre called him out (not to mention a HOF QB couldn't succeed in his ****** system).

And it's not just because of Sanchez, he's been terrible with practically every QB.

I feel like the Jets have been searching for a good OC forever. Hackett (puke), Heimerdinger, Schittenheimer, Sparano (jesus) just a who's who of guys who blew or who could run an average offense at best with awful calls being the norm. I feel like Heim was just there.

More and more I think back to how Mangina had the Jets at 8-3 before farve's bicep blew and how Rex inherited that team and never improved on that regular season mark to any significant degree. It seems like the team is stuck in the mud due solely to offense and the Qb position and that's really all there is to it but I do wonder if it's the offensive ineptitude from a coaching standpoint moreso than QB. I have said it since pre season though I see too many dumb things from Smith.

But when you look at QB, HC and OC the Jets absolutely blow with 2 good pennington years (one with a resurgent Martin) being the only thing that made the offense good at all since really what, 98?

I gotta laugh at the mentality that is a Ben Roethlisberger or Sam Bradford wants out, their teams would actually consider it. It shows a profound lack of understanding regarding just how bad the QB situation is around the league. Half the teams in the NFL have good quarterbacks, and that might be generous. Teams are not going to be willing to hand their QB's over to the Jets because its so damn hard to find another one.

And neither of those teams have a Phillip Rivers waiting in the wings. Franchise QBs are hardly ever available.

Your secondary isn't particularly strong. QB is suspect like the Jets'. RB's are good. O-Line isn't consistent at all, similar to Jets. WR's not consistent. You'll have good and bad weeks, just like us.

Only difference is you paid big bucks to land fa's like Mario Williams who struggle to stay on the field while we have an influx of capital about to come in to spend on other positions.
you mad bro?

We are a very young team on the rise, who has dealt with major injuries all year. I'm not saying we aren't Jekyl and Hyde, we are, but when I make a very benign comment because I'm happy my team looked good and you go into a diatribe, I'm going have to remind you that we murdered you on every level and turned your QB into a scared little girl to the point where he got pulled from the game.

Our QB is suspect? Yeah, not really, pal. Manuel is head and shoulders above Geno and everyone knows it.

Other than O-Line, we are loaded with talent everywhere. We didn't pay big bucks to land Marcell Dareus, who destroyed your QB. DESTROYED.

Thanks

4-7 you guys are amazing. We were picked to be dead last so I'm happy where we are.

You're delusional if you think EJ Manuel isn't suspect.

I've never given praise to Geno, the only comparison I make is that both quarterbacks are in fact suspect.

Might I remind you that we dominated your team the first time we played this season, and that was with 22 penalties called against us.
Diatribe might be hyperbole, but it was still fairly unprovoked.

Our QB is better
Our RBs are better
Our WRs are better
Our D-Line is better

..and we have Kiko Alonso and you don't.....

There is no way you can sit here and tell me that your QB is better than ours at this stage of their careers. It took Aaron Rodgers 4 years to materialize into what he became. If someone compared his first year to Russell Wilson's (without knowing what the future held) they'd say how it's a no contest. It's a pretty even toss up.

Your RB's are better, but then again I did give credit where credit was due.

Your WR's are better, but still inconsistent.

Your D-Line is not better. Settle down. Come back to earth.

Also we have the 2 best rookies. You Alonso, us Sheldon. The point is moot.
As a Bills fan, you learn to take pride in the little victories, and focus on young, exciting players. If we didn't, we'd all be hanging from the ceiling.

That said, I think our draft this year was excellent, and we have a bright future if we stay healthy and get a real coach in here (jury is still out on Doug Marrone).

If we don't make the playoffs next year, he's gotta go. This should be a playoff team with the talent we have, here.

Need to improve your secondary too.
We drafted Robert Woods (WR), this year. He is gonna be really good, imo. WR is a spot where we are actually pretty set at, for now. Graham and Goodwin played well, this week with Woods and Stevie out with injuries.

We have Byrd at safety and Gillmore who is a 2nd year guy, (broke his hand in pre-season) but we could add another safety and/or corner, although I like Aaron Williams.

Focus needs to be O-Line. Outside of our center (Eric Wood), we basically have nobody.

One thing that I appreciate about New Yorkers (and why the rest of the country hates us) is our ability to talk **** even when their team sucks.

The Giants and the Jets are mediocre football teams on their best days -- wouldnt know it in this thread though
