The most interesting point is probably the first answer. He basically says: "I don't know what to say, I've no confidence, I'm totally lost. I never played so bad since I was 22."
Thank You, Pete Deboer.

He actually played well for...like...the first 7 games but then later he was infected with "Defensive Responsibility"-itis, courtesy of Dumbeor.

Haha! You said it before I was able to!

Friesen really sucked after that first year with us. Last I heard he was still kicking around in some league in Europe.

I don't even remember who number 12 was before Friesen. Probably Pierre Dagenais or some crap.

I just remembered. Sergei Nemchinov!

While this isn't the exact same article that was discussed on page 5 of this thread, it's from the exact same date. Other posters clarified that the comments were mostly Brunner talking about how he needed to work harder and do more.

I remember when he played well for about 7 games and then promptly vanished without a trace ever since....

The only explanation is Pete's coaching.

He had a 25 game span last year where he scored 2 goals. Maybe he's a really streaky guy, or he's just not as good as we thought he was.

I feel for the guy. I won't blame DeBoer for his slump... but DeBoer is not the kind of guy that makes it easy to redeem yourself. He needs a goal so badly. I hope he gets it tonight. He seems like such a nice guy... C'mon Brunner!

Found it; I read it in the NZZ, so it's in German too...

It is also mentioned that a player like Brunner, as "an individualist among conformists", might just not be a very good fit with an organisation like the Devils.

But I like what I'm reading about Brunner in these articles. He often gets accused of being lazy, one-dimensional, a weak diva. Some of it might be true, but if you go by his statements, he still has the right mindset.

Who is this Brunner guy you speak of. There was a player nicknamed Bru but he disappeared in the PD system of bad coaching.

He may be the softest player in the history of this team.

I don't follow the Red Wings. Only the Devils.

But I guess you do so you're the official Red Wings expert here now.

Anyway, my *point* is that I could care less what he did on other teams. I only care of what he did with the Devils and there was a 7-game stretch at the start where he was pretty good until he just disappeared.

Now this may be his own doing but considering the others struggling, it's more a case of Bad Coaching than anything else.

Of course, if we could get something for him(a 4th rounder?) at the deadline, I'd be fine with that.

PD system doesn't tell you to take 2 offensive penalties, one after losing the puck and being lazy. He is terrible, Pete is a good coach.

No he's not.

His system is alright.

But his personnel-handling is putrid.

He also missed an easy tap in goal on a pass from Bernier on the shift after zajac's goal.

I thought he played a pretty good game last night, but he has to make a better decision and not knock that puck down with a high stick. Wait for it to come down, he could have had a breakaway.

He could've also scored through Lund-NO-Pads's 5-hole just like Ryder and that goal would've been the goal of the season for the Devils, making all the highlights on MSG and NHL Network.

But no. Brunner just had to be Brunner and give us our daily DUMB-F'ery-move of the day.

This is what makes him an awful player. Deke through a few guys, loose the puck and take dumb lazy penalties.

He should come down the shore, I can take him water skiing in the bay since he likes it so much.
