They Came At Them in the Same Old Way and Defeated Them in the Same Old Way

Good -

- Zadorov looked good.
- Baptiste with his 10th and 11th goals in his 11th game.
- EFO once the game was salted away generated a lot.
- Tallinder's play on the 2nd goal.
- Larsson showing some dog on the PK.
- Myers on the forecheck once the Avs let up.

Bad -

- Still can't come out and play well from the drop of the puck.
- Weber-McBain on the wrap-around goal.
- Grigorenko. Find a way to get him playing time on a roster, just not an NHL roster.

Ugly -

- Weber throwing Downie into his netminder. Don't ****ing do that.
- Taking most of the first to get a shot.

Zads and Risto need to be in the lineup every night.

No more Weber for a while please!

No Porter tonight was great to see. Still too much of stone hands Flynn but Ronnie's gotta play his guys. Although At least Flynn creates some offense at times.

2 shifts with Ennis tonight and Grigs looked good! Who would have thought that playing an offensive minded player with another offensive minded player would actually pay off a bit?

Probably his weakest game of the year -- he over-committed on a poke check against Landeskog and it wound up in the net on a wrap around since he got no help from his D. The other three goals were quality -- a tip, some bad d-zone play (like that's news) -- but that 2nd one was probably one he'd like back. Not saying Mills was poor, just not the level he's had to the previous collection of games.

Weber also threw Downie on his left left and he came up hobbling a little. Weber went with Downie and it wasn't much of a tussle -- lots of grappling, little thrown.

I agree with everything except it seems like Ristolainen will stay in the AHL and I like the way Flynn plays, I don't think he's in just because he's ron's guy.

Lets loan Grigorenko to the KHL to the team Keenan is coaching. He would teach him compete . . . .

Good: Zadorov no nerves, no mistakes, great debut for a teenager. Ennis playing like Ennis should. Larsson. Myers lots of gallop on offense.

Bad: Weber.

Ugly: The awful awful start again.

They need to be in A lineup every night.

I'd prefer it if Zads were in London and Risto in Rochester.

And Grigorenko needs to be in a lineup every night, playing decent minutes with decent linemates. Darcy needs to find a way to make SOMETHING work.

Why do Zads and Risto need to be in London and Rochester yet Grigoreno needs to be in the lineup every night getting decent minutes?

I don't say that's where the NEED to be, it's my preference.

And Grigorenko just needs to play somewhere, period. I really don't care where at this point. Send him back to Quebec. Pay Quebec millions of Pegula Bucks to be able to put him in Rochester. Loan him to Russia. He needs to play.

It's very interesting to hear Rolston with NO answer when asked how to improve their bad starts.

It sounds like a presser when the coach is on the verge of getting fired, not that they will fire him.

And not for nothing....
Rolston is really arrogant/snitty in some of these press conferences, like he's some veteran, grizzled coach. It just sounds....odd. At least he stopped copying Tort's act almost verbatim.

Ristolainen was in Buffalo tonight and it sounds like he will give Zadorov more time so either Risto will actually go to Rochester or McBain/Weber or a player is waived

Loved the ending of RR conference. He had an 18 year old play like a 20 year old veteran and veterans play like it was their first game.

Calling out the veterans and they deserve it. Our leadership is not good.
Imagine if Grigorenko had Ellis' work ethic
I could see a waiving coming soon

Love Zadorov, no need to rush him, put him back in London and get him away from this **** show. I want Risto to go back to Finland or the AHL or something, just get him away from this team, also send Girgensons back to the AHL, he needs to improve his offensive potential oh and get him away from this team as well, Pysyk is too good for the AHL unfortunately he'll have to stay with this team.

Who lit Ron's tampon on fire? Testy testy .......... but loved the Zadorov reference - '18 year old played like he'd been in the league 20 years'.

Frankly, I didn't see enough of Zads tonight in his 11 min of ice time to judge who's ahead of who. Zads seems a tad more willing to jump in the play....that's all I'm willing to say. But, he got the lion's share of his ice time with the game out of reach...that should account for something.

I would take Ristolainen and Zadorov over Weber and McBain if they can play the way they have.

I know tonight's the only night we've seen of Zadorov and things can change, but he looked good. Risto also looks good, not perfect but not bad.

I think the team gets a lot better if those two are in every night, Porter is out or plays 4th line.

Also if the team can play like they did in the third and get some fore-checking they'll be more than decent.

Which is more than enough reason to get them the heck off the team right now.

This was a difficult game.... too many close ties to both teams. Want Sabres to win but not necessarily against a resurgent Avalanche team. Didn't feel this way back in '96 - 12. There's something different about this Avalanche team for me but I don't know what it is (no longer a season ticket holder so its not like I have any $$ invested in them...)

Now to the game....

G: Zadorov
Foligno
Ennis
Larsson
Pysyk - as usual
Hodgson goal
3rd period effort

B: McBain
Ott
Weber

U: another loss with no end in sight.

Foligno and Ennis were best Sabre line on the ice tonight. Great cycling and pressure.

Zadorov was a beast. Totally powered O’Reilly off the puck in the corner in the 3rd. Pretty dang impressive. Paired with McBain (?) which originally concerned me.

Avs youth and inexperience showed in how they played complacently in the 2nd the 3rd. Against a better team, they would have gotten beat.

Credit to the Sabres for turning up their game in the 2nd half. But the skill sets are definitely lacking (lack of finish).

Avs strength is their forwards and complement of natural centers. The D is lacking by comparison and that will hurt them in the future. I’d like to see a Sabres D/Avs fwd trade. Was there any scuttle butt about this tonight? Scouts/GMs at the game?

Last season, Avs – after losing a hard fought game to the Wings, would have lost their confidence and gone into a multi game losing streak. Looks like that’s in the past.

Finally, for those not catching the Avs post game feed, Duchene was asked what’s the difference this season? His response was coaching, management, system and confidence. Avs added McKinnon and a couple of new D this season but honestly, the roster is not that much different this season. But the results are.

And therein lie the core of the Sabres problems IMHO.
