Anyway, Martinez played a great game. Voynov looks like he's suffering from post-newcontract-hangover.

First line looks like it's starting to sync again, and individually all three are playing better. Second line looks good. Bottom 6 still hardly an offensive threat. Aside from Lewis' breakaway this season, has the bottom 6 had a legitimate scoring chance at all?

The defense.... meh. Better than against the game against the Rangers, but still woefully mediocre.
The criticism of Kopitar comes from him not getting to the net as often as he should. Once again he appears to be taking what the defense gives him instead of forcing the issue himself.

And why does it have to be very soon? If it's game 78, and the Kings need to win, then very applies. If there are 78 games remaining, you have some time to work things out.

If the Kings had a slow start, then I would agree with you. Last night, however, they had a strong start and then fell flat on their faces in the second and third.

And I just hope that they fix this soon, because I don't want to watch crap hockey. I don't speak out of a sense of urgency.

No complaints about Kopitar after this game, he played fine, I'm really more concerned with Brown and Williams not clicking with him at times. It should come though.

2nd line looked good, as it usually does. Carcillo was pretty effective in his ice time, after Brown he was the 2nd biggest thorn in Ottawa's side, and managed to snag us a PP in the 3rd from his hitting.

3rd and 4th lines looked decent at times and meh at others, but overall I liked the change. Hopefully this remains in place for at least a couple more outings.

Martinez and Mitchell were particularly good tonight with pinching in in the O-zone, I was pleased to see those two guys involved in some of the boardwork we've been really lacking in. Mitchell still looks shaky in his own end but the pieces are starting to come together elsewhere for him.

Regehr saved a goal on the first Sens PP, but otherwise he was pretty lousy.

Sutter did make a good point about the 5v5. Basically that we earned all those powerplays from our 5v5 work, and since the powerplay won us the game, whats to complain about?

I think we kinda took Scuderi for granted. Jeez. Crazy how smooth we looked when we had him vs how bad our D looks so far. Hopefully it gets better

Pretty sure most people knew how important he was, especially on the PK. Jesus, our "box" last night looked more like a squizzly line drawn by a palsy patient.

That was such a stressful game to be at last night. After the first period, I thought we had it all locked up. Obviously, the Kings did too and that's how the Sens got back in the game. At least we got the win, I just hate giving out a point like that.

With that said, I thought Carcillo looked good in his debut and Martinez had a strong game. I only noticed Frattin twice the entire time. Oh and Mitchell still seems to be struggling out there. It was also hilarious watching Williams get into Conacher's head. At one point JW pushed him as he was getting back to the bench and none of the refs saw it. Conacher had himself a little tantrum and was banging his stick on the ground while the guys sitting next to him were trying to calm him down.

Muzzin-Greene is so hard to watch when they try coming out of their own zone.
I so agree with this. No idea why Sutter seems to like Muzzin. He is -5. Team high. He needs to get better in defense may be in Manchester.

Doughty finally gets the puck, passes it to Regehr infront of the net who is wide open with noone really close to him. Regehr fumbles it then throws a weak pass to Williams 10 feet away from him, who already had a senator in his face before Regehr passed him the puck. Naturally the Kings lose possession and spend another 30 seconds in the zone chasing shadows

There is not a single redeeming factor about this guy. He isn't smart, he can't pass, can't shoot, makes bad decisions, can't defend, can't pk, can't skate. He can hit well, but its suicide when he does because it takes him 20 seconds to get back into position

Was watching the Blues vs Hawks game yesterday, man do we have work to do. Both teams rolling 4 lines and 6 D all game. We got to get more skill and speed on our bottom 6.

I think we will have a guy ready to step in from Manchester if we need it. At this point, i'd say Martinez has been more consistent than Muzzin. Muzzin has a lot of upside, but he makes some boneheaded plays also. The Greene/Martinez pairing just seems to work. I'm not big on Doughty/Regehr. I would almost like to see a guy like Andrew Campbell play with Doughty. I think they have him paired with Forbort at Manchester, and they are doing very well so far.

I'm still blown away at how much everyone expects smooth, consistent hockey 4 games into the season. There's a lot to work on, for sure, but I'd rather these guys peak at the right time instead of blow their wad right at the beginning. And, reminder, this is Sutter's first real training camp w/the team--i'm sure there are some system tweaks in there somewhere.

Especially after last night's game, which was a slight improvement on the previous three, I'm not seeing the need to bash everyone and everything like "so and so is past his prime".

I get that there are higher expectations now, that many consider us amongst the league's elite, but the majority of this team made the WCF last season and lost to the hottest team despite adversity. Now they're all get thrown under the bus repeatedly. There's criticism, and then there's "I can't enjoy anything I'm watching no matter what the result." This board is looking a lot more like the latter lately.

Who's we? Nobody took Scuderi for granted.

Also, I'm pretty sure the Kings didn't look smooth defensively all the time with Scuderi in the lineup. I recall there being questions early on last year about how Scuderi was looking slower, and older, etc.

They could always buy him out at the end of the year if he's not injured.

I guess it was a last-minute change. GDT had King listed as a scratched player.

I was trying to do lineups in my HB game day blog and both teams were very veiled in starters it seemed. A couple of game time decisions on both sides of the puck.

Meanwhile, is anyone else kind of annoyed with some of the post-game questions media are giving the Kings?

The questions to Sutter last night...they were acting as if we lost or didn't deserve the W. Love how Sutter handled it but jeez, between the questions to Quick the other night and the questions to Sutter last night...

Yeah, I felt they should have asked Sutter what he thought of Martinez and Carcillo's play, and if he thinks he will come back with the same lineup in the next game.

I think getting some comments regarding the newly formed Clifford-Lewis-Frattin line would have been a good idea as well.

Long term I don't see how Carcillo sticks with Richards and Carter.

This team still has a lot of work to do. I think Lombardi will be on the phones within the next week or so. The D is just too bad, and Regehr is such a terrible partner he's actually dragging Doughty down at this point.

Glad we got the win and our top six got moving tonight. But I still see little ES pressure from the top line, a slow, exploitable defense, and general all around sloppy play.

I am not sure we did. I looked at what the Pens d looked like when he came to LA, and figured ours was going to take a hit as well.
With Scuds back in steel town Fleury will be a top goalie again. Even in the playoffs.

I liked Carcillo's game last night. I thought he played with and edge but did not cross it. His penalty was BS, but he took two Sens with him, so I cannot be made.
The stupid Sportsnet broadcasters were questioning Neil going to the box. They were saying what is he getting a penalty for, water cannot hurt the ice. What idiots, there is not better example of unsportsmanlike.

I thought Carcillo's game last night was fine. He agitated without taking any dumb penalties, but he is as Sutter has said a 4th line player.

Unlike many other folks I like King and Nolan on the same line. The two seem to have some chemistry and when they get the puck deep, they pound the other team's defense in a way some don't notice.

At this point Fraser can remain a healthy scratch. I am not going to be surprised if Dean is looking to make a move using Stoll, but I think he will give it 20 games or so before doing anything too drastic.
