not sure. Dane Fox is a centre? still, 11 goals in 11 games for undrafted 19 year old is pretty good.

1993-10-03, he's 20 now but he's interesting in that he's missed a lot of games.

Tried out at blues prospects camp.

Fringe CHL all star 2012

Don't know anything about him other than that.

It's his overage season. Not an interesting statline at all for a guy that age. He's also on a line with Brown and McDavid.

I understand the caution about over-agers putting up big numbers, but a goal a game? Does it go so far that even that production is uninteresting? (I'm not being rhetorical with my question.)

Gaunce's was a goal

0 points and -5 for big Joe Labate in a 9-2 drubbing last night

Well when you're 20 years old, in your 5th OHL season, playing with two of the top scorers in the entire league including the proverbial "next one" and you've never broken PPG until this year, I'd say it takes a lot of the lustre off of the GPG pace ... not to mention it is still just 11 games in.

He is playing LW with McDavid and Brown on the right wing. But played C previously.

The reason why Fox was not drafted was all because of his character. London traded him because they didn't want to deal with his issues anymore in the locker room and out of it. Prior to that, London also suspended him for 3 games, he was gone for a while for "personal issues".

He's a gritty player who plays a two way, all round game.

But i'm not sure i would touch him unless he has resolved his issues.

LON loses to WSR 3-4. No points for Horvat and finished -1. Liberati finished -2 and had no points.

Wheat Kings up 4-1 on the Tigers.

Polasek was not in the line-up for Kalamazoo's season opener tonight. The K-Wings lost 2-0.

Matt Beattie managed to log 1 SOG in a 9-2 exhibition victory. He was listed as the 2nd line centre, no idea how much ice he actually got though.

I'm familiar with all of the caveats with respect to over-agers, as I mentioned in my earlier post. I also know it's a small sample size. It still seems to me to be an impressive pace to start the season, startling enough that even with his great line-mates, it would be ridiculous to expect him to sustain that scoring rate. But it doesn't quite make sense to me to say his stat line is unimpressive because he won't sustain it. It's because it's so impressive that it's unsustainable.

If he somehow managed to score a goal a game for the entire season, would we still be saying "yeah, but he's an over-ager," or would it suggest he's worth considering as a prospect?

Go look up the name "Brett Maclean" in hockeydb and check out his impressive stats. Then look at who his linemate was for those seasons and you'll see why an 11 game goal-per-game 5th year 20 yo playing on a line with McDavid doesn't excite me terribly ...

Well, that's impressive evidence to support your case. He managed exactly one goal a game in that over-age year, and went on to be a career AHLer. I wouldn't have thought, even with his line-mates. I suppose I also would have traded for BJ Macdonald.

MacLean had his 61 goal season the year after he was drafted, while this is Fox's second year after being draft-eligible.

Also see Justin DiBeneditto. Stats aren't as good, but put up 93 points with Stamkos.

Undrafted 20 year olds with a limited prior track record of success that put up lots of points with star players don't usually turn out to be more than fringe NHLers at best. Fox has some talent, but you'd really only be interested in him if you had a bunch of extra contract slots available. Probably better suited for an AHL tryout.
