I'm a big fan of that draft as well. The 1st 4 rds look like they could yield some gems. And boy does Gillis need a couple hits...
It seems like Gillis gets it right every 2 years. 2009 was a fairly good draft, 2011 is looking like it could be a great draft and ditto for 2013.

2008 was basically a Nonis draft, we only had 4th-7th round picks in 2010, and 2012 is considered a weak draft.

Is the 2011 draft looking like a great one? Corrado was a great pick but beyond that I don't know if there's a whole lot there. Still a bit early to say but Jensen was a big disappointment for me at camp this year. Didn't show much feel for the game at all IMO.

Jensen was disappointing but he was good in SEL last year and still has potential to be good in the NHL.

Grenier, Blomstrand, and Tommernes who are all playing in the AHL this season who could be NHL player down the future.

Corrado, we all know about this guy.

So yes, I'd say it was a good year.

Too early to call it a good year IMO. Especially if Jensen doesn't pick his game up considerably from what he's shown as a pro in North America.

Grenier, Blomstrand, Tommernes and even Labate might make the NHL one day but very well could come up short. Don't think there's any way we can call it a great draft at this point.

Still too early to judge either way. But a good sign is that they're all playing together in Utica at least and showing promise. It's just like the 2009 haul all over again where most of them should reach the AHL at minimum.

Funnily enough, it was also another draft where we had at least 7 picks, and the team seems to have done well whenever we've had that. Including 2013.

When I say a "great draft", I'm not talking about the end result. I'm talking about how promising it looks and the success of the draftees to this point, as opposed to, say, the 2008 draft. Hodgson turned out great and Sauve at least got a contract, but Rai, Froshaug and Clark might as well have disappeared off the face of the earth. It's early to judge the 2012 draft, but most can agree that Mallet was a huge reach in the 2nd round and Beattie and Myron look to have an extremely low ceiling. Compare this with the 2011 draft, which produced 5 players who are at least already signed to ELC's with the club.

By the Canucks' extremely low drafting standards, 2011 was a strong draft.

They're bad, but not that bad. Shugg, Woods, and Staal are AHLers at least.

Tochkin, like Welsh and Dalpe, fell out of favor with his prior club and is looking for a fresh start.
Fair enough, right? He's managed to be assigned to the Canes' ECHL affiliate instead of the CHL like last year. Baby steps.

Yeah, Shugg and Palushaj would easily be better ones on RW. I would think even someone like Tolchinsky who was eligible to be drafted this year would already have higher upside than Tochkin.

I thought he was supposed to have been signed by K-zoo by now.

Wow, he isn't on the K-Wings roster and he isn't listed with any teams on Eliteprospects or HockeyDB.

Is management seriously letting him sit in limbo after being a PPG player in the ECHL last season?

I just checked the linked site and it appears he is rated a 6c, perhaps you read it wrong.

Perhaps you checked the wrong page? I believe the other page is more up to date and would have the new 9.0B rating listed.

Well, I've just sent him a tweet asking where he's playing this year. Hopefully he responds.

Myron threw away his career.

If he'd stayed in college, he'd be getting top-6 minutes for Boston University right now and have three more full seasons to develop at one of the best college programs in North America while remaining property of his hometown NHL team.

Instead he's low-end minor-pro fodder, won't be signed by the Canucks who'll surrender his rights at the end of the season, and his chances of an NHL career are done.

One of the dumbest decisions I've ever seen.

Plus he should have known that playing in the NHL isn't a guarantee. Enrolling in college gives him an education and future job prospects while developing in a good NCAA program.

Sad because he looked okay in the prospects camp.
