I'm sure this means they're going to trade Ovechkin for a 4th soon.

Ovechkin has been on the ice for 94% of the #Caps' power-play time this season (56:45 of 60:24), so Fehr has logged just 3:32 on the PP.
Wow.

I disagree, we have both a lack of talent and we are using what talent we have in such a poor manner that it is making things worse than they could be.

We need a 1LD or 2LD that is killing us. We have forever. Also, we are both giving our worst possession players too much ice time and playing them together to make things worse.

More energy or enthusiasm would help but I think that is built on actually attacking more than defending. We have to defend too much because we never have the puck which exposes our weak overall D.

For starters I am trading Brouwer or Laich and a 1rst or whatever package is needed to get us good LD. Then I shuffle the forwards left and see how things go. Adding Kuz will probably help but I don't know how much we can depend on that.

How about we trade Laich and Johansson, keep Grabovski, and put Green in the top 6 as a winger?

But I understood your actual point, and ask you this. Do you really want to break up the only line that's been clicking lately? Chimera-Grabovski-Ward have found chemistry and are producing well.

Wow. I never realized how awful the roster looks without Ovechkin.

That's what happens when you spend 30 million on wingers and only have one of them play a defined top 6 role.

Fehr: “I don’t think anybody knew that I was the backup there. It’s almost like being the backup to Tom Brady. You just don’t see the guy."

What an insult to Ovechkin. Ovechkin clearly is Peyton Manning.

So, someone must have numbers on their record without Ovechkin over the years. I don't remember it being all that bad. That said, probably a lottery team without him long-term.

“That’s his point of view, but I think we’re grown men, all of us, and we should be able to prepare ourselves,” Backstrom said. “Everyone is doing different stuff. That’s up to the individual.”

Oates agreed, saying players have the right t prepare themselves as they see fit.

“I don’t buy that because everybody’s an individual,” Oates said. “As a player, I was a jokester right up to the very last second, through warmups, everything, Some guys show up at 3 o’clock. What’s right? What’s wrong? There is no answer.”
Everyones gotta do some stupid superstitious crap before a game like Holtby or they are doing it wrong.

The funny thing is that if Neuvirth said this you would be defending him.

Oates was a jokester? In what reality? Always seemed stoic to me as a Caps player...can't remember many smiles even.

haha I was thinking the exact same thing, always seemed so serious. Again the organization protecting the country club atmosphere.

I rather watch the awful Glen Hanlon Capitals that atleast put forth a constant effort than this talented joke of team.

My friend, you have taken it too far..

Although back then the future looked a lot brighter, I'll give you that.

Well, you've convinced me. Holtby is no good and has never been any good. Neuvirth is the answer. We'll tell George. Your work is done here.

Yeah, apart from watching Darcy Verot go up the ice seemingly ready to bite Todd Bertuzzi on the leg, there wasn't a lot of entertainment in the Hanlon era.

What this team is really starting to look like is the 02-03 Caps w/Jagr, Lang, Nylander, Zubie, and Bondra. A pretty talented top 6 that could be shut down if you pushed back hard enough. And an atrocious defense in which guys like Kiwi and Doig were playing top pair minutes in a playoff series - that characteristically, we got up early on, and then folded quicker than a cheap suit.

And what was McPhee's major move that year at the trade deadline to help a team with a lot of top-end forwards and a very skinny back-line: he brings in Sergei Fuggin Berezin. A nice player, sure, but pretty much the last thing in the world that team needed.

I don't know the answer to their without Ovechkin record but if it is indeed not bad I would guess that had a lot to do with having another elite talent winger in Semin on the roster to help pick up the slack. Now who is their next most talented winger, Erat? Not really the same...

Semin rarely stepped up and carried the team when Ovechkin was out....at least that's how I remember it.
