Your 2005-2006 Leafs Team at 39mil

Pavol Demitra ($3.3mil) - Mats Sundin ($6.84mil) - Jeff O'Neill ($2.1mil)
Anson Carter ($2mil) - Jason Allison ($1.5mil) - Eric Lindros (1.5mil)
Gary Roberts ($1.7mil) - Matt Stajan ($805,600) - Darcy Tucker ($1.596mil)
Chad Kilger ($450,000) - Nikolai Antropov ($1mil) - Tie Domi ($1mil)

Bryan McCabe ($3.458mil) - Mike Rathje ($1.7mil)
Tomas Kaberle ($2.28mil) - Carlo Colaiacovo ($858,800)
Karel Pilar ($500,000) - Stanislav Neckar ($450,000)

Eddie Belfour ($4.56 million)
Garth Snow ($900,000)

A few notes on the above lineup:

- Owen Nolan and Ken Klee are bought out. Berg, Ponikarovsky and the the rest aren't qualified.
- Eric Lindros and Jason Allison get the $1.5mil base salary + bonuses ( I don't think they count against the cap)
- Stanislav Neckar is a capable defenceman in my opinion who needs to re-establish himself in the NHL, I think he would be a make a good fit as a bottom pair defenceman.
- Anson Carter is a good all-around player, skates well and from Toronto, I think he'd be a great fit especially with the "new" NHL.
- The defence looks really weak, I have to admit. I guess the new NHL will see teams having 2 key players and the rest will be role players, 39mil is a very limiting figure that's for sure.

Please feel free to criticize, comment and make your own Leafs 2005-2006 lineup.

I'd rather resign Ponikarovsky then spend 1 mill on Domi.

Demitra will make 4 million+
O Neill will make 3 million+

you probably could get snow for cheaper(i think a lot of teams will fear to sign him because he is the poster boy for big pads)

Fair points, O'Neill might take less to come home though provided we give him a long term deal. He's only 29 years old and most likely won't be qualified by Carolina.

bonuses count against the cap

your contracts for allison, demitra, o'neill, roberts, rathje, and snow are too low.

I can see him giving toronto the hometown deal, but still he would be roughly 2.5. As for Demitra, he will likely go to highest buyer which will take him out of toronto's range.

ok replace murray (4.0) with O'Niell (3.0)
and replace poapst (1.5) with jason doig (0.5)
coliaicovo would be a good injury filler

Darcy Tucker (1.5mil) - Mats Sundin ($6.50mil) - O' Niell (3.0)
Matt Stajan (500,000)- Jason Allison ($2.5mil) Gary Roberts (1.5 mil)
Ponikarovsky (500,000) - Eric Lindros (1.5mil) - Nikolai Antropov ($1mil)
Chad Kilger ($450,000) Alex Steen (500,000) - Nathan Perrott (500,000)
Wade Belak (750,000) Clarke wilm (500,000)

Tomas Kaberle ($2.28mil) - Bryan McCabe ($3.458mil)
Aki Berg (1mil) - Ken Klee (2mil)
Scott Ferguson (500,000) Karel Pilar ($500,000)
Jason Doig (500,000)

Eddie Belfour ($4.56 million)
Mikael Tellqvist ($500,000)

I think it would be better to stay well under the cap to account for injuries and the trade deadline in the spring. I would probably start the season with a payroll of 35 to 36 mill.

You have to remember that you need to save room for injury call ups.

Contrary to the critics in this thread I do not believe that this roster is dramatically out of touch. I would guess that a roster of these players would command about $43 million, not $39 million.

[QUOTE=Sundin13]
Pavol Demitra ($3.3mil) under paid
- Mats Sundin ($6.84mil) OK
- Jeff O'Neill ($2.1mil) slightly under paid
Anson Carter ($2mil) slightly over paid
- Jason Allison ($1.5mil) slightly under paid
- Eric Lindros (1.5mil) OK

Gary Roberts ($1.7mil) OK
- Matt Stajan ($805,600) OK
- Darcy Tucker ($1.596mil) OK
Chad Kilger ($450,000) OK
- Nikolai Antropov ($1mil) Slightly overpaid - suggested buy out
- Tie Domi ($1mil) slightly overpaid

Bryan McCabe ($3.458mil) Over Paid - must buy out
- Mike Rathje ($1.7mil) slightly under paid
Tomas Kaberle ($2.28mil) OK
- Carlo Colaiacovo ($858,800) OK

Karel Pilar ($500,000) OK
- Stanislav Neckar ($450,000) OK

Eddie Belfour ($4.56 million) OK
Garth Snow ($900,000) OK, But why?

You guys forget with usd ready to tank many will come

You guys forget sometime no later than 2006 the us dollar will begin its long enron tank downwards as it becomes apparent usa is broke and over indebted. As Bush brings back the draft to get more cannon fodder for vietnam opps i mean iraq more and more will not only want but beg to come to canada.Yeah our taxes are high but at least you dont get shot at.A lot of players will be aware of the upcoming economic changes, and as the now laid off americans opt out of hockey many will prefer to play in canada because " at least the stadium isnt empty".Im not buying this many prefer to play in usa, that would only be the stupid ones.

I dont want a lot of your picks,i want kariya, pronger types otherwise we may as well just cut all the vets and start again. We have tried buying the broken down older vets and we didnt win anything.Whehter it be trading way to much for w.clark or nolan or getting good players past their prime(leetch, reichel, renberg etc) it just never works for us.Another thing Lindros is a maybe,as such im not paying 1.5million and then dumping a cheaper ponikorvsky.

If you think we can win a cup with a 40 year old belfour and snow you must be dreaming.Eddie is real good but he fades as the playoffs go deeper.

The defense, not nearly good enough and klee is better than some of your picks.Im not giving up a cheap rock steady vet for another maybe either.Sure berg can go..hes junk anyway if it wasnt for quinn he would be out of the nhl.

Kariya sundin Tucker
Antropov Allison Mogilny
roberts stajan ponikorvsky
Wilm steen domi
wellwood

Pronger Kaberle
Klee Covo
pilar white
bell belak

goalie: ?

Mogilny will take a pay cut, roberts would play for free anyway, allison will come cheap and lindros can take 1 million on tryout or hit the road.We cut Mcabe and pay pronger max.I dont care how we do it,but 39 million is plenty to win a cup just ask tampa bay.

Heard on TSN that a players' salary who's replacing an injured player won't count against the cap.

It's just too obvious. If the trade deadline has passed and you've stacked your team @ $39M for the playoff, but 4 of your regular guys get injured, you just can't be stocked with a 19-man roster....

EDIT: Oh yeah and you guys' rosters seem pretty reasonable to me, except bonuses will count against the cap.

Another thing, why would you guys let Nieuwendyk, Mogilny, Roberts walk only to sign Demitra, Lindros and Allison!? Doesn't make any sense to me.... Better keep your guys.
