If I were picking the CDN Oly team, Subban would be on it. Based on intel gathered, at this pt, he's a longshot...behind Boyle and Letang.

I hope they don't take Subban

GO TEAM USA!

I laughed when I saw that the other day.

It would be a huge mistake for TC to not take Subban but as a US fan, I'm all for it!

I'm not gonna guess how they pick the team, but if it were me I would put the ability to quickly gel with teammates and contribute above pure talent alone. I think Boyle brings that and experience with him.

Probably a factor.

Babcock did that the last time. He picked guys who were already teammates. It gave Marleau/JT/Heatley a huge edge. This time around there are strong indications that he will leadoff with Keith/Seabrook and JayBo/Piet as d pairs for the same reasons. The forward nominations fell into the same vein with Stamkos/St. Louis, Crosby/Kunitz, Bergeron/Marchand, etc. They aren't just on the same team, they are on the same line or pairs. The same applies to the #1 PP unit. He is leading with Crosby which should give Letang a huge edge for the #1 QB role.

So you are saying both Boyle and Vlasic will make it.

Hilarious that they'd take Letang over Subban for the offensive/PP role when Letang sucks on the pp and Subban's one of the best in the league.

I did a quick re-scan of PP efficacy (PP%). Pitt has surpassed Montreal recently. Not so good in Letang's earlier years. Markov's presence/absence greatly affects Montreal's PP. How good is Subban without Markov? IMO, Markov is the brains behind the Montreal PP. There is always the possibility that Markov is passing on the intelligence to Subban as Montreal PP graduates tend to do reasonably well (Streit, Souray). By himself, Therrien is a terrible PP coach as seen in his pre-Montreal days.

I mean he was great during the whole process of the Olympics. I just feel like is a type of goalie that always ends up on the short end of the stick. I believe 2014 should be left up to one of the two others.

Ok, so since Pavelski is our only 100% lock right now... here's my question for you guys, who do you want to see play on his wings for team USA? What is your ideal Pavs line?

I've said it before elsewhere, but Patrick Kane - Pavelski - Bobby Ryan is the line i'm rooting to see

Parise-Pavs-Kessel would be great. Would also love to see him with Bobby Ryan but my hatred of Patrick Kane runs to deep to make me want to see that.

Is he really their best center?

I agree that Parise and Kessel would be great. I don't like Kane, either.

Kesler might be a bit better.

I wasn't really implying that Pavs will be the 1st line center. I kinda think USA's top two lines will be similar/interchangable... just wondering who everyone would like to see him with.

And I also hate Kane and love him. It's a love hate thing. I tried hating him unconditionally. But I can't not admit that if he was a shark i would love him. so yea... it's complicated lol

The only thing the other guys have on Pavs is their skating and physicality but I think that Pavs has the hockey IQ to overcome that on the big ice, especially since he was doing well in the KHL during the time he was there.

Oh, my bad. I honestly can't think of any decent U.S. centers other than Backes and Kesler, and I think Backes would be used on a shutdown line. That's why I asked.

Stastny and Stepan are in the center mix too as far as I can tell.

I could have sworn he was Canadian. I guess I was wrong.

Kesler is playing wing right now.

I want to see Pavs centering Parise and Kessel. They'd be perfect linemates for him. But, call me crazy, I think Derek Stepan will be the US's top offensive center when it's all said and done. He'll be with Parise and Kessel, and Pavelski will be with Patrick Kane.

Anyway, Stamkos' injury probably opens the doors for Couture/Marleau/Burns to step up. St. Louis may not make it without Stamkos too, so potentially two wing spots could open up. I'd love to see Burns with Crosby...

It depends on a lot of stuff. Some guys get a choice, but if they participate any stuff internationally in junior or later, they are stuck with that country. They do allow switches, but have a whole series of hoops, some possibly impassable, to change countries.

Buffalo's Myers was interesting as he was born in Texas but is now considered Canadian for international play. It was his choice initially.

David Pollak ‏@PollakOnSharks 4m Back at hotel, turmed on TSN and see they're projecting #SJSharks Couture (2nd line) and Marleau (4th line) for Team Canada at Sochi.
