There is seemingly no plan, no basis or no real mandate behind any of the suspensions he's been handing down IMO. There is no code in hockey anymore, and little to no respect amongst the players. Officiating is pathetic and Shanahan isn't fooling, nor scaring any of the players. If he wanted to send a message he would've suspended Dupuis at least 5, give Neal (repeat offender) 10 and Scott Thornton at 15-20.
Shanny is just a puppet.

I agree with both of these recent suspensions.

LA is making Montreal look like an ECHL team. Men against boys in literally every facet of the game. Missed the first but have watched the entire 2nd. Exploded for another 3 and it's 5-0. Why is the East so weak? I mean, I know Edmonton is a ****** team don't get me wrong I'm not trying to jump on the West is best bandwagon, but seriously, the gap between conferences is just enormous...

Also, I can't believe how stupid NHL refs are. They actually didn't call goalie interference on that 3-0 goal by Toffoli. You won't find a more clear or textbook example of goalie interference. Clifford was almost behind him when Toffoli scored lol. That's absolutely bush league. Not that it would make a huge difference but it was a deflater for sure.

The Canadiens are even smaller than we are. It's no surprise that the Kings are killing them.

The Oilers would contend for a playoff spot in the East. Some KHL teams probably would as well. Baffling how the gap between conferences just continues to widen.

Y'know something that's mind-blowing? Of the 4 Canadian teams in the west, 3 are sitting well behind the playoffs, and the 4th, Vancouver, is barely hanging on in 7th spot...only after winning 5 straight.

And then you've got Ottawa on the outside, and Toronto's barely hanging on too...

Could you imagine a playoffs with 6 of Canada's teams on the outside looking in? Christ, what would the odds be of that.

...it's also a major piss-off to boot. Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Toronto have among the worst management in all of hockey. Unacceptable.

Wow the Isles just ended a 10 game losing streak in San Jose.

Thought maybe someone would be fired if they lost.

What's more baffling is the power house Wings aren't taking advantage of this.

The Wings aren't a powerhouse anymore. Personnel-wise, they have an average roster at this point. Being hardened by years of playing in the West gives them a leg up on most of the Eastern patsies, so they'll still be a playoff team. They should be better defensively than anyone besides Boston in their division. Eventually great players retiring takes its toll on an organization.

Honestly, the odds are pretty good the way it's looking now. Edmonton, Calgary, and Winnipeg are toast. I doubt Vancouver makes it. They take care of business against the weak sisters on the schedule, but seldom beat good teams. They're only in a playoff spot at the moment due to having 3 more GP than Phoenix. 0/4 in the West seems like a pretty safe bet.

Montreal will make it barring a total collapse in the second half of the season. 82 points should be good enough to make it in the East, they're half way there with 50 GP remaining. Toronto is toast. Won a bunch of games early where they got badly outplayed, but reality has already set in. Based on their schedule, there's no chance they still occupy a playoff spot on Christmas morning. Ottawa could potentially move into Toronto's spot, but I'd put my money on the Rangers or even the Flyers before I put it on the Sens. The only chance I see for Ottawa or Toronto getting in is if the Atlantic sends 5 teams, the Metro only 3.

I'm not a mathematician, but I'd say the odds of Canada only having one playoff team come April are in the 35-40% range at the moment.

Islanders have 9 wins this season, and half of them are shootout wins.

And they play in the East.

God bless our brothers.

Delayed penalty to Buffalo while they were on the PP, so Ramo goes to the bench and two Flames jump on the ice. Cammalleri scores and there are six Flames out there celebrating with another still in the penalty box. The goal is waived off and both teams get a penalty.

How are the Ottawa Senators even in a playoff race? Gawd the East is horrible. Carolina Hurricanes, at .500, and pretty much awful, taking up 8th place with Sens a pt behind. Sens would be 10pts out of a spot in the West. But actually if they had to play most of their games in the West they'd be where we are.

This is true for every Eastern team except maybe 3-4

Phaneuf just knocked the puck into his own net. It doesn't count since Hossa knocked it down with his glove first.

Since Minnesota beat Colorado in the shootout it means the Oilers are now 18 points out of the playoffs.
