they got destroyed for sure but they were due for it and the Stars are just starting to wake up again, given they're a fairly middling team they're having their natural ebbs and flows, similar to Toronto albeit still much better. Toronto has been on a pretty good run as of late too.

Another mess? Vancouver. Just lost to Nashville at home.....yikes

Ducks keep impressing me even though I still can't picture them with the cup.

A Ducks vs Hawks Western final would be an incredible series to watch that I can picture going 7 games.

I think the Ducks success also shows that what Budreau did in Washington was no fluke.

they're getting great goaltending and Getzlaf should be getting some Hart consideration IMO. The man is playing like he wants to be recognized as the best in the world... skill, tenacity, hockey sense, grit... he is literally the complete package. He actually shooting this year too. Great top 9 there in Anaheim.

IMO Getzlaf was a serious contender for #1 in the world a few years ago, he had a couple off years but when he's on his game I agree he's the complete package.

Perry is clutch, just about impossible to stop when the Ducks really need a goal.

It's crazy how many amazing hockey players are in California right now. You could make a good Olympic calibre team from those 3 teams alone.

Eric Nystrom trying to double his goals in one game...
Sean Monahan turning into Sam Gagner right before our very eyes.
And dubby completely ***** the bed.

Gilbert with a couple more points in 21 minutes tonight... too soft for the Oilers though, right?

And when you traded him for a guy who's about a third as good at hockey.

Florida has a habit of making guys look a lot better than they really are.

Stephen Weiss, anyone?

Tom Gilbert is a case of would he

a) been better left as being a #3/#4 defensemen or even lower on the d chart
b) do you let someone in Petry (or potentially Justin Schultz) play that same role on the team

I personally hated how un-physical gilbert was - he was soft like butter and let opposing players just go to the net.
Nick Schultz isn't better but there also not comparable players - ones a shut down d-man the other (Gilbert) was supposed to be a top pairing offensive d-man and he failed at both.

Lets not forget Tom Gilbert was given a tryout with florida a week before training camp, ask Minny fans what they thought of Gilbert (that's probably a better indicator).

Minny fans at the time generally seemed to think he was a victim of the salary cap exacerbated by his season long illness along with the Wild's inability to buyout Heatley, who was protected at the time by being on the IR.

Gilbert's better than Nick Schultz at both defense and offense, and that was the case when the trade occurred as well.

He's a top 4 defenseman who signed for 900K while the Oilers were busy throwing millions at guys like Belov, Ference, and Potter.

Horrible choice to keep him up. He is getting slaughtered right now. He will be the reverse Gagner, good defensively but no offense. At this point losing a year on his elc is a sunk cost, let him go to junior to develop.

Lindolm, Monahan, ristolinan, zadorov should have never Benn in the nhl

Top 3-5 center. If he played in the EC he'd be a lot more hyped

Monahan has 14 goals.. the most on the Flames, you really think junior would help his game?

I watch a lot of the flames and this opinion may sound stupid but whatever, He doesn't create offense for himself, he only benefits from his linemates, There is a reason he only has 14 goals, and 6 assists :/ Its completlty stupid to have him up still but he had 6 goals in his first 9 games, and 8 goals in the last 36.

Absolutely, he has like 3 since he's hot streak at the start of the year. hes been getting out chanced greatly in the mean time. Not all of it is on his shoulders, hes been stuck with a crappy Calgary team, but hes been bad for a while now. He looked good in the beginning, but the lesson with rookies is that alot look good to start but crack after playing a while.

Nurse was in the exact situation, looked good in his NHL games, but would have been a big mistake to keep him up

Gagner also put up 49 points his rookie season, but should have been left in junior

In his last ten games, the Flames have a Corsi% of 25.7%. As I’ve written in the past, anything below 40% is notably horrible. I didn’t even contemplate a Corsi% below 30%. Calgary’s got a Corsi% of 14.6% this year at 4v5 – Monahan has been closer to a shorthanded Flames team than he has been to the traditional cut-off line for “Non-NHL Player” of late.

Monahan’s playing with a foot problem and isn’t really a useful NHL player at this point in his career. None of this falls on him but you kind of wonder why the Flames have been tossing him over the boards to get murdered. Surely Jerred Smithson or someone is available to fill a spot while Monahan heals properly.

Monahan's plight brings back memories of Gagner's rookie season...hot start combined with the team's relative lack of options entices them to keep him up for his 18 yr old season, but then after that start the kid cools off and gets his lunch handed to him defensively on a nightly basis.

At least with Gagner he was able to produce some offense, although it was never enough to counter what was being given up at the other end of the rink.

Monahan's going to be a very good player, but he should've stayed in junior for this season at least.

This past years rookie class should also serve as a lesson for our 2014 1st rounder.
Even Jones has been getting picked apart out there for long stretches of games.

Mackinnon seems to be like the only guy that can handle it.

I see Reinhart as a comparable prospect to Lindholm, Ekblad to Jones (not as good) and Bennett to Monahan.

All 3 guys we might pick should be in junior next year.

It is funny Calgary fans rip the decision to keep Gagner up as a rookie when Burke is doing the exact same thing

Looks like Michel Therrian could be gone in Montreal soon.

Vancouver Canucks currently have the best goal differential out of all Canadian teams... at 0.
